When I start my car up, if I put the turn signal on (left or right) the light on the dash doesn't lit up and the turn signal bulbs just stay lit and don't blink. It does that on and off and after about 10 minutes of driving it returns to normal. Do you have an idea what I can do to take care of this? Thanks.
where is the flasher relay located? thanks
did you change a bulb recently?
no I didn't change a bulb recently.
Haven't verified with the 968, but with other cars I've owned, the turn signals would light, then when they went out the light in the dash would illuminate - they traded off. So if the relay is toasted, it might stand to reason it's stuck in "flashers lit, dash unlit" until it warms up.
Check under the hood, on the driver's side up near the windshield. There's a black cover with lots of fuses and relays under it... I can look it up but it will take a few minutes.
Here's a photo of the sticker that should be under the lid... Looks like G4 might be your huckleberry.

thank you tamathumper. How do I know which one is the flasher relay? and how do I know if it's fried? thanks so much
I edited my post to include the photo and the fact that it might be position G4 you're interested in. For $8.50, I'd order another relay and just try it.
thank you so much tamathumper. I will check it out and let you know.
If someone with another 924/944/968 is close by, you could always swap relays for a minute to test the theory.
Or Boxster, or 993, or 996,... very common relay.
do you know where the relays are on the 996? we have one of those so we could try it.
I've never even *sat* in a 996, let alone know where the relays are. Perhaps someone else can help or you can Google it, or pull out the Owner's Manual, which should tell you where the relays are located.
thanks so much for your help tamathumper. I looked it up on google and found it. You've been most helpful! I will order the new part now.
Don't thank me unless your blinkers start blinking when you change the relay. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> And don't forget to top up your blinker fluid while you're in there. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
I never heard of blinker fluid?? what and where is that?
it's in the same aisle at the parts store as the muffler bearings and chrome kinaedor valves
I am totally messing with you about the blinker fluid. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> It's the automotive equivalent of a left-handed screwdriver.
Don't forget a Litre of Prop Wash while you're at the store.
Now I just feel bad. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blush.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
