Hi 968 Community. I have a '93 Cab that makes a strange noise when braking and turning to the right. The brakes were just inspected along with the rest of the car, and no problems were noted. However, at very slow speed, and when the wheels are turned to the right, a pretty loud groaning noise emanates from the area of the right front wheel. The brakes perform flawlessly otherwise. Any ideas?
wheel bearing
Although it could be, I wouldn't expect a wheel bearing to make a loud groaning noise at "very slow speed"?

Are you saying you hear the noise while braking AND turning to the right, or while braking OR turning to the right?

Does the noise seem to be wheel or engine RPM dependent?
Thanks for the feedback. The car has 48k on the odometer, and has just had it's state inspection, so I'm not leaning toward the bearing. I will check it out, however. The noise only happens when braking and turning right at very slow (5-10 mph) speeds. I was wondering if the brake pads could have built up some sort of glaze.
a state inspection would almost certainly not turn up a wheel bearing.

wheel bearings make noise under load. the frequency and amplitude of that noise is often altered by speed.

put the car in the air and check the bearing. you won't get anywhere without doing that.
I had a noise that also could be heard at lower speeds and when turning. It turned out to be a bearing.

But... beware!

It may NOT be the bearing where you think the noise is coming from! I thought the noise was coming from the passenger side but it turned out it was the driver side bearing. Make sure to check all four.

If available, use a stethoscope! It is amazing what you will hear.
I think I've had this same noise, back when I first bought the car, as I was pulling into a parking spot at work, I was cutting the wheel pretty hard to the right (not all the way) and braking. It sounded loud and brake-related (for lack of a better term). It did it once more a week later, then has never done it again. I chalked it up to "the car was sitting for a while".
