I currently own a 1980 924 w/ M471 suspension package and a 1982 931 S2. I know you guys are snickering, but I like the cars. I just can't get over the near 240 hp the the 968 offers. I'm kickin around the idea of upgrading to one of these badder boys on the block.... Now I'm just trying to check out the clubs. I guess open access is not granted until several posts are made? Do I under stand this correctly? Also, I'm trying to see if any events might occur out here in So. Cal for the 968.
Regards,
Michael
As the Tutorial will tell you, access is a graduated process, but happens rather quickly.
The Local Events section is the one to watch for events in your area.
No snickering here. My first P-car was a 924. Welcome to the forum and best of luck in your search. Bear in mind even the 968 is slow off the blocks compared to today's Dodge Neon.
I have always loved the clean lines of the 924, especially with the euro bumpers. I'm tempted to get an '87 924S.
Hi Michael, not snickering here. I had a 1980 931 as my daily driver for 7 years (1988 - 1995). It had the "sport group" option, which I believe was an upgraded suspension (just looked that the original window sticker but it doesn't show the M codes). It was silver like my current 968, and I thought it was a really nice car, the handling and balance were very good. Also liked the body style -- it has a certain elegance that was lost in comparison to the "aggressive" body look of the 944. But then I got tired of paying to replace turbos all the time for about $3,000 in a car worth only about $5,000. And 150 hp with a working turbo vs 240 hp in the 968 of course also is a big difference. Wish I had kept it, it also had the "op-art" checker-board interior.
Kinda odd, I let it go to a charity for a tax deduction (dead turbo, other problems), and then 6 months later saw it on the road. I rolled down the window and yelled to the driver "hey, that's my car!". He responded "not anymore" and drove away!
Good luck find the right 968!
Roland
Enjoy the search and well worth it!
