I have an opportunity to buy these wheels and tires for a very, very reasonable price.....I hope to track the car next year, but thinking maybe 1-2 events max.

I understand that is common practice (or what I have heard) to run the same width wheel front and rear for track rubber....all four wheels are 17x8.5 ET50, the tires are 245/40-17 front and 275/40-17 rear, Hoosier A6's.

What think you? I am flat out of money after all of these recent procurements plus a new roof on my rental unit.....but these are $250.

If they were staggered, I would get them for sure so I could put them on my 968 with street tires after refinishing them.....

Just want to make sure that I get advice before jumping on these.....let me know if you think they would fit without rubbing. Thanks!

You could probably buy them and resell the rims and make some quick cash.
If they won't fit my 968 without rubbing....not going to touch them.
understood - if they were closer and I had a shot, I'd grab em and flip em, but I wouldn't pay shipping as that would eat the profit. I am sure someone who knows will chime in here soon.
have you checked the forums search function

there are other threads too about tire sizes..
lol - yeah - this thread has now been moved to the TIRES area
I figured since it was track tires that I would use on a DE day, I would post it under the DE forum.....LOL.

Thanks for the link, I had done some research myself, but because they are not staggered, and the 8.5" in the front with a 245, I figured I would ask. I think the offset will work based on 17" 993 Cup (cup two) wheels, but I don't know if anybody has experience with this. This is my first car with staggered wheels.
understood.

as for fitment, the rears are no problem. the fronts will be close, but should fit. i have a 255 up front on a 9" rim with 57 offset. so, my tire is 10mm wider, but i have 7mm less offset. still, that leaves me 3mm more hanging out there than a 245 on 50mm offset.

unless the track tire is actually wider than a street tire, in the same size, then i don't see a real problem
Thanks....now that I just did the O.D. calculations...here's what I have:

Front:

Stock: 225/45/17 - 25.0"

Proposed Track Tire: 245/40/17 - 24.7"

Smaller by 0.3"

Rear:

Stock: 255/40/17 - 25.0"

Proposed Track Tire: 275/40/17 - 25.7"

Larger by 0.7"

The front tires would be 1.0" smaller in diameter as compared to the rears, the front end would drop 0.15" and the rear end would go up by 0.35".

I think based on this, that all the wheels are the same width and offset, and to prevent from having any issues in the future, I will skip. Plus right now I have one set of winter wheels and tires for my S8, one for the Q5, have an OEM set of Alfa Romeo Spider wheels, and another set of alloys I got on the Alfa. Do I really need another set????
