I am curious of who is in charge here besides Flash. I was put on membership review because my spell checker did not work and it took me 3-4 months before I was put back on the site with no review. I see constant poor spelling from some of the more active members i.e. , those with thousands of posts as apposed to hundreds. like my self.
What are the rules besides vomit comments that one is not supposed to do or say? Is poor grammar one, we know spelling is on the list.

Quote:Jay now that is beneath you. Perhaps the verbalization was overboard but Craig was here for a while as an active contributor before he meandered!Rap,
Based on my post, you could just as easily point the finger at me...(self deprecating)

periodically weeds have to be pulled. some weeds can look like attractive plants for a while too, until they go bad.
we try to keep threads on topic, and discussions productive. this isn't facebook. you can't just ramble on about what you had for lunch. sometimes that makes people think they are being censored or edited. this is also technically a publication, which legally allows editing. there is a common misconception that free speech means you can say anything you want. you can't. look it up.
so, if we find something we feel is against policy, or not in the best interests of the membership, we make adjustments. it has been rare, and usually very minor. on very rare instance, we have had to hide things, or lock things. it is not our desire, nor has there really been a need. the countless thousands of posts that have no intervention seem to be ignored, and only the handful that required intervention seem to be noticed.
you can't please everybody. "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one"

<a class="" href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Godwin%27s+Law&defid=1301565">Godwin's Law</a>
A term that originated on Usenet, Godwin's Law states that as an online argument grows longer and more heated, it becomes increasingly likely that somebody will bring up Adolf Hitler or the Nazis. When such an event occurs, the person guilty of invoking Godwin's Law has effectively forfieted the argument.
"Dude, shut up. Nobody cares what you think."
"Oh, so now you're trying to censor me? Go to hell, you damn Nazi!"

Thanks Jay! That's a very interesting bit of information. I also find it interesting that they resort to a reference which is certainly not the first example of politically driven and heavy handed censorship. Why Hitler? Why not China, ISIS, or one off of the long list of others?
Fodder for a class discussion later today.

Just an aside, in Neo-nazi/Fascist circles the law applies equally to the word "JEW".

Jay that's what I always have liked about you! Flash so I can't yell fire on the forum? William, at the risk of offending, perhaps if you tell us you have a Spelling disability flash will offer you special dispensation. For example, I am unable to correctly determine when to use you're or your. I believe it was as a result of my Catholic education. Or perhaps because I am a Republican who watches Fox News. Only Flash can tell you which excuse he used to give me the Forum's special consideration.

Let's not imply that fascism / calling someone a fascist is synoninomius with Nazism. There are some ( a few ) redeeming values to fascist ideas , just as there are a few values to communist ideas, whereas. there are none whatsoever to Nazism !
LMAO, I like the reference in Godwin's law article ; " led by a lunatic who looked like Charlie Chaplin "
As for members leaving the forum because they may be overly sensitive to differences of opinion , or because they are corrected or cited by the moderators for stepping over the prescribed decorum / protocol, and take that personally, that's too bad but nothhing to cry over .. They should check in on other forums where members hurl personal insults at one another the likes of which will spin your head . Keeping this forum civilized, without being overly a-retentive doing it is a tough balance to achieve, so flash deserves credit for maintaining the site for so many years in reasonable order, no doubt while fighting not to let his own OCD laced with slight psychopathic tendencies take over completely :-) :-) . What, I know he has thick skin , and I say that in the kindest way ..it's an attribute, lol.

Just to clarify when I mentioned other forums I was not talking about RL or any Poesche forum for that matter..I stumbled upon a Nissan forum while looking for a part for my son's car and had some time to waste so I was reading a few of the threads ; mostly the 350Z crowd getting into it with a bunch of BMW guys ( no idea what Beemerheads were doing on a Nissan forum ) and man, you could read the sparks fly..even the contending members' mothers were not spared from being the subject of many-an-insult.. But given that particular demographic perhaps it should not come as a shock. Anyway, glad to see how mature everyone who belongs to this illustrious group is..

In regards to telling Flash, which I did many times, that I suffer from Dyslexia, with other learning disabilities and am a lousy typist all of that fell on a deaf ear because I was still on moderator review for 2-3 months and the reason given was poor spelling. But that does not seem to apply to all. Don't believe me? Look at the post by DS968 3 posts above this one. Porsche is how you spell the name of the company/car. It is not spelled "POESCHE". Should he be banned for a typo? Of course not but I was.
Also I have been told that I am not allowed to ask a question of a feature that used to be on the forum that was beneficial to all, with the threat of being banned, So is that fair? Yes I agree this is not a chat room , it is a privately run privately owned learning tool, but if I am not allowed to ask a question is that someone being a dictator?
I think that was where this tread started from.

1. We could let it die
2. We could all misspell constantly
3. We could endlessly debate the merits of the arguement
4. We could discuss what is wrong with DS
5. Or we could talk about Baltimore
Your pick gents!
