The attached picture from Clark's Garage shows a 944 upper cover. What is missing from this for the 968 are the 2 bolts that go through the bearing. These bolts are between 5 & 7 and 6 & 8 on the attached.
Does anyone have the torque numbers and sequence for the upper balance shaft cover bolts?
Are the numbers on the 944 correct for the 968?
The Technical Specifications manual states the same two values for M6 and M8 bolts, as shown above for "Cover for balance shaft housing to upper crank-case section", and has an additional line below for "Hexagon head bolt (bearing saddle)", M8 x 58, 15 (11) 1st stage, 33 (24) 2nd stage. Please verify those are actually M8 x 58, as the listing in the manual is somewhat obtuse.
i believe the 944 info is correct. this is the problem with the workshop manual. you have to have both the 944 and the 968 manuals. most anything not found in the 968 manual is because it was already covered in the 944 manual, and continues forward unchanged.
I may have found my answer by looking at the lower balance shaft cover. The lower cover on the 944 has two M8 bolts in the position I indicated. According to Clark's Garage these are torqued first to 11 lbs., do all the other bolts to spec, then go back and torque the first two to 24 lbs.
