I was wondering - has anyone played with relocating the hazard switch to one of the switch blanks in front of the base of the shifter? Then putting a blank on the dash.

I am sort of tired of looking at that bug red button. I am seriously thinking of taking a black sharpie to it.

I was also thinking that if the move could be made them a mount could be fabricated for my GPS that would stick in or out of the old hazard hole in the dash. I hate suction cup marks on my windshield.

Thanks

Ed
look at my thread entitled "Switch Switching"
Okay - will do Thanks.
I might be being obtuse - all I see is the switch colored black. I wasn't thinking I needed to move any thing other than the hazard switch.
i moved the hazard switch, and changed it to the earlier one that is dark until lit.

i also moved the window switches to the center console

i also moved the fog light switch to the center console

since then i have added seat heater switches on each side of the heater controls
Ah, I didn't catch the hazard switch was moved, just black.

I don't really car too much about the rest so far. I can never tell which way to press the top control either - lol

Is there a part number for a black switch?

I like the triple gauge setup - but then I suppose I would have to hook them up to something - lol

Thanks
i think i listed the part number somewhere in that thread. not sure. it should be easy enough to find though.

i forgot to add that i also moved the mirror selector switch to up by the mirror adjuster

as for the top switch, most of us don't use that anymore, as we are scared to death of popping the bow that is no longer available. we are all in manual mode as a result.

i no longer have the gauges there. i now have a double din GPS deck there
I have two window switches on my door - I am cool with most of the stuff, but would like to move the hazard switch and try to get a gps mount there of some sort...

To put the double deck in did you have to cut the panel? I think there is a divider there and I really don't want to do anything to the car that is not bolt on bolt off.

I saw the photos of the dude who cut into the dash binnacle and ruined it and it made me cringe - glad it worked for him, but I would never do that.

No the black switch part # is not there - I can try to call the Porsche dealer in Portland or where ever they are that I got my other stuff from or have my local guy find it.
I found my black hazard switch on eBay. They pop up there occasionally. It's a 944 part.
Cool, thanks Bomb - I will look later
yes, there is a bracket in there that must be altered for a double din to work. i've seen people remove it, but that makes the dash structure weak.

re: window switches. it always bugged me that they were over on the door. awkward to get to. much easier in the console. it also made more sense to have the mirror selector next to the mirror adjuster, and the fog light switch where you can actually turn it on and off while driving, and not have to feel around blindly behind the steering wheel to find it.
I put in the dark switch as well, pulled it off of a 944 S2.
Thanks Dave - I will look for one.

Flash, I don't use the fogs, so no big deal. I think they are on all the time, so if the lights are on, the fogs are on. I think I have driven the car twice at night and no one flashed me, so I am thinking they are not a problem.

The mirrors, I don't adjust them often. The one that kills me is the rear view with no auto dimmer.

I don't think I am going to worry about a built in GPS as I don't anticipate driving the car far enough away form home to worry about it, but it would be nice to have something for my garmin when I do. I get pretty cramped up after an hour or so in the car. so I don't see needing a permanent GPS

I have not even found a stereo shop yet - so until I do and I am comfortable with them tearing into the car, it is going to be a plug and play install at first.
Black switch ordered. Sweet!
the fogs shouldn't be on unless you turn them on. there is an indicator light on the switch. they will automatically switch from fog to driving though with the hi/lo switch of the headlights, assuming they are on.

i now have an auto dimming mirror, complete with 3 garage door openers and a compass.
I will have to look at the fogs - like I said I have only driven it at night like twice - too many bugs to clean off

I don't want to chase the wire to put in the dimming mirror - too many other things to do first
understandable. that one is a bit of a pain.
Yea, I can see where that would have been difficult given what a perfectionist you are - lol
it's just a pain to get the a pillar cover off without buggering it. the rest is actually pretty easy, once you figure out a switched and not constant hot source to run up there.
Ah...yea, I still have some of the little red covers ordered that go over the screws on the passenger a pillar ordered. I am missing one. I have a suspicion if I open my shop vac I could find it.
