It's the different angles from which the two photos were taken that makes it look as if one sticks out a lot more than the other ( hmm, interesting tip to consider for those sexting selfies , lol ) but I think they're actually closer that it appears. I can find out exactly how much it sticks out beyond the bumper line tomorrow, but 1) it's positioned dead center so it's as far as it can go and 2) I think it looks perfect where it is now, so would not want to mess with it even if it could be extended further .
that's what i was saying earlier. it's all about the angle. from the top, when you look down, it's really easy to have it look too long. if you set it so that from the side it only sticks out about 1/4", then you will have it sticking out just enough to see it from the top, but not much.



personally i don't like it sticking out at all, and only put it out enough so that the gasses and heat don't hit the bumper cover (made the mistake of getting too tight once). but, to each his own.
Agreed, to each his own, but if you go to the trouble of removing it and polishing it, wouldn't you want to see just a little bling? JMHO

That is a personal preference and not consistent with "classic styling", which followed the maxim "form follows function". In the early days alot more soot came out of the tailpipe and to minimize that factor, the tailpipe extended past the bumper. My 968 has a stock muffler and the original tip. For my eye the symetry is aesthetic.

here's another angle. however, looking at the tip when standing ( which is most of the time except after a good session of tequila or scotch tasting ) you see just enough of it - like flash said, about 1/4" - to have the desired effect but without making it the center of attention
i never liked tips sticking out, but i agree about the reasoning of earlier cars. however, in today's cars it is not an issue, and having a tip sticking out gives it a more dated look. like i said, i wish i could have it flush, but the opening is just too big to do that.

That's where my query started, and despite the jokes, that's what I was curious about; as to whether it was a model year issue or not. Not that it has major significance... your 94 tip was different but mounted obviously to the same muffler. Thanks.

Believe it or not, neither would I. Well, actually I would drive it .. directly to a muffler shop to have something customized.

This is another one of those " what were they thinking ?! " IMHO .
lol - i don't actually like that car at all. first off, it has a roof, and i don't like roofs on my cars. the list goes on from there.

In a luxury car flush exhaust tips compliment the elegant aesthetic of the vehicle. In a sports car or a GT I prefer to see the exhaust slightly more visible, especially since sound is ( or should be ) such an integral part of the car. Oh, and I think anything placed dead center like the Vette in the photo, and several other cars I've seen with similar set ups is butt F-ugly ! But then, I've always been, and still am partial to symmetry that's why I like the balanced look of exhaust tips on each side of the rear end.

i also do not like center exhaust. as for the vette, those are hardly flush. in fact, they extended the entire area around the exhaust pipes, making it stick out even farther.
They're flush with the license plate and they've done some air streaming to the sides for what purpose I have no idea, but visually looking at them from the side they appear flush... but point taken.
yes - they made the tips flush with that extra bulge of body work that sticks out the back, below the license plate, which surrounds the tailpipes



they never have really nailed the exhaust on the vette. it either had horrendous side pipes, or tailpipes that hung too low, or things that looked stock on as an afterthought. not sure what that's about
Every time I see the tail end of the new Vette I just wonder to myself "hmm, is that a Camaro"...I'm sure it's faster and better but YUCK!

I've got this crazy neighbor who just bought a 2014, which doesn't look like the green one I posted earlier... so I don't know what the difference is. Anyway he likes my Porsche and so when I asked if I could take a picture of his tailpipes he just grinned and said "Sure!"... I didn't want to get into a long conversation so I just took the picture...
