And a 968 coupe prototype on the second shelf below what I think is 968 production #1:

Oh wow, very cool. Sorry, I couldn't read the German and thought it was a 928 cabrio prototype.
Actually, using Google Translator:
"So hätte ein 928 Cabrio aussehen können. Überraschend zeitlos, oder?"
"So would a 928 convertible may look like. Surprisingly timeless, right?"

This is the 968 proto. the silver one was the 928, i think. This 968 has the fixed headlamps and the body is different on the back. I really like this.

Wow, why the heck didn't they go with that ?! Oh, if only... Fixed headlights, even nicer rear lines , the only other things needed would have been a timing chain, 300 hp, and this car would have been THE undisputed best Porsche of all time, probably with a current market value way above its original price.

At half the price of a 911.... that's why. Almighty buck. There's a video floating around with them getting the car off the truck and pushing it into the museum. It's pretty sweet.......

I believe the blue 968 "Roadster" was made after the 968 was already in production as a possible "facelift" if 968 sales had taken off and they had pushed off the Boxster some years. I don't think it was ever completed - there are other photos floating around of it - some interior bits looking along the lines of the 986 Boxster, plus the fixed 993 headlights and steering wheel (which were introduced in 1995).

Wouldn't it be nice to have that kind of garage space? Yesterday it was 16 here and I decided I could no longer stand the amount of dirt on the floor that had accumulated in a week. So I was forced to move all of the vehicles on the floor out to clean it off. Boy it would have been fun just to move them over to another spot in the garage!

blau, thanks for that info and the pics.... REALLY love the lines on that car.

As nice as it is, I prefer the sharper lines that the production models carried over from the 944 - I never much liked the 'half-sucked-sweet' look that many cars of the 1990s had <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Those are some great pics, thx for posting! Looks like there are some amazing hidden/forgotten gems languishing on those racks. Kinda the PorscheSmithsonian. You could spend weeks looking around in there and drooling.
Cheers
