Full Version: Trunk button won't work (key does)

Hello,

I searched the forum and found lots of posts where the key wouldn't open the trunk, but after bending the reed on my trunk microswitch the trunk opens fine with the key (motor working, etc.). The problem I am having is that the button by the driver's knee doesn't work and I would like to try and fix this. Can anyone shed some light on how to troubleshoot it?

Thanks,

Ken
Hi Ken,

If you have a cab the key will need to be in the accessory position when you use the botton (safety feature so other people can't get in your trunk if you leave it parked with the top down). In coupes the switch works all the time.
Thanks for the response - the switch is inop no matter where the ignition switch is positioned. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?

Thanks!
First try removing the switch and shorting it to see if it is the switch or something else.
thanks - cleaned the switch and connections and now it works! 1 thing down (but my odometer just stopped working so 1 step forward, 2 steps back!!)
