I participated in my first car show yesterday. Many thanks to bva for his in depth knowledge and transfer of car concouring knowledge. While I didn't win anything, my car is the cleanest and most detailed it has ever been. Mind you, for those who know or have met me, you know I keep a a very clean car. My wrenching knowledge and ability is zilch but I do know a thing or two about keeping a nice car.

I ran into a guy with a nice looking 928 who almost immediately started talking about 968's and how he wanted to buy one. He mentioned that there was a beauty in the show that was stoking his interest. Trying not to smile too much I agreed that it was a fine specimen of a 968. As he continued to talk about his longtime desire to buy a 968, I casually mentioned that the one he had looked at was mine!

He immediately asked to buy it. I told him that it wasn't for sale. We found another Porsche guy and were just talking when he mentioned it again. This time I just smiled at him. The third time he mentioned it I told him he couldn't possibly afford it! Arrogant? I hope not. He asked why I said that and I told him I was just joking with him.

So we ended up by my car again and he asked me to remember him if I ever thought about selling the 968. So I took his name and number. This is when I found out that I worked with his Dad on the towns Street Department when I was a kid (16). Man I felt a little old!

So my question is, what would it take to induce one to sell their 968? Money, a trade, financial or family circumstances all could be considered. Right now I totally dig my car and have no reason for selling it. Could I be induced? Hmmm!
I already have too many cars right now so for the right price I would sell mine.
I'd trade mine in a flash ... for two 968's in comparable condition!

Bill
If you need to look that hard for a reason, I'd say keep it. You only live once and otherwise you may regret it in the (near) future.

Or you can sent it over here, I'll give it a nice and cosy home ;-)
The only other car I'm interested in at the moment would be a new Caymen S. So, someone would have to offer me enough money to make that happen.
Perhaps I wasn't clear, I'm not interested in selling. Chris I might follow your line of reasoning. Since the other car now is pretty much just used on the track, it is nice to have the white one to tool around in. Plus again I really like my car.
My price today is $30,000 firm...ask me tomorrow for tomorrow's price.

Jay
$30,000 is my number too and It'd be a reluctant sale at best (30k is also the dollar amount I'm insuring it for).
I find when I am done with a car, I know it. If I have to force the decision, then I am not done.
I'm ready to sell. Too noisy, too old, rattles worse than my dog's bones, can't get parts, no-one knows how to work on it. Then I make the mistake if driving the damned thing again. Jesus it's quick. Maybe I'll keep it for another month.

Been saying that for almost a year now...
I have has people ask if I would sell them my car since my 1st Concours in 2006. It is a nice feeling but wether these folks would pay the price or not is another question. I never give a price or talk money as I never wanted to sell. Now that I brought my money pit-92 968 neglected- I may have to sell to make room. Now when some one ask I guess I will talk money
This is funny. I thought about starting at 35 and working it down to 30. Pretty unrealistic but a nice thought. Still too much fun and too real to give up yet!
The blue 968 has a sales price of $ 250,000. The tiptronic I'll let go for $ 35K AND a weekend with Scarlett Johanssen at a resort of my choice.
New Cayman S nicely equipped = $80k. Almost as practical as a 968, faster but not the sweet=handling touring car the 968 is. Plus rumors of a 4 cyl Cayman so maybe Porsche is going back to the future. Would be really hard to sell such a nice car, knowing not nearly worth enough for an adequate replacement. Let's hope Flash keeps coming up with improvements!
