Hello,

I own a black 1993 coupe.  I have not been on the site for quite a while due to other pressures.

I just wanted to share that I went to install new timing belts to discover the hydraulic tensioner is frozen.  The bad news is that the part is not available (and has not been available for years now).  We're looking into doing a conversion to use the 944 S2 tensioner but I'm still waiting to hear if possible.

Anyway, our cars are getting older.  Hopefully, they don't stop running due to lack of parts.  BTW, I bought the last motor to open the hatch last year.  There are now none left.

Welcome,

Hope that you can hose it down with some liquid wrench or other and break it free. There is a rumor that Porsche Classic is going to make these parts again, but hold on to your wallet, it's going to sting.

Enjoy the site,

Jay
there is somewhere around a rebuildkit...

Plus livrable 03/06/2023 will be delivered at the 3th of june. that is soon. see at rosepassion.

the original part
The good news is the car didn't turn into a large paperweight and we're able to do a conversion to the 944 S2 tensioner.  I may get the car back tomorrow.

They say Porsche Classic has the part listed and that it's in testing...  but who knows?

The (independent Porsche) mechanic says the S2 tensioner is a better design and 968 racers were putting them it.

Thanks for the pointer to rosepassion.  As in many other places it states "no longer available".
Rock Auto has timing belt tensioners!!!

Good to know.  Too late for me because we did the conversion...  I'll spread the word to my mechanic.

Thank you,

The mechanic tells me that the part at Rock Auto in not available.  You can add it to the cart and pay and then get a notice the part is no longer available and they credit your card.
Well, the 968 reproduction timing belt tensioner that came from Rock Auto showed up a couple days ago.

It looks like it should work. So, if you need one, this is an option now.

I'd post a photo, but this forum won't let me. However, I've uploaded a couple photos to my gallery.
