Supposedly Porsche is develpoing a FLAT 8 Cyl model, designated as the 988 , to be in production and available in 2017. Coool, sounds like 968 , so we can tell everyone who stares at our cars and asks what it is, that's it's the new 988 prototype series known as the 968... with that new, revolutionary flat 8 engine <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
A Car & Driver blog speaks of 1 turbo for every 2 cylinders. Wow. I wonder where they will put the landing gear :-)
Yup, that's what the UK magazine claimed as well , the car will have 4 turbos . Oddly , the anticipated HP is only about 600. Of course I say "only" because I would think a Quad-turbo 8 cyl Porsche engine should probably be capable of producing a lot more ponies than that ; closer to 1,000 hp as is the case with McLaren's P1 8 cyl engine . But maybe it's deliberately controlled to a ( ahem..) reasonable ( ahem ) 600 hp, given the market to which they're targeting the car ; competing with the Ferrari 458 Italia, and such..
well, it's pretty. it will be interesting to see what it is like when it is released, and whether they make a targa or convertible version. i also wonder what it will cost.
Hmmm, I have an extra 8 I could just replace the 6 and sell for like $300,000...yeah
