So since my car is almost at 300k km I though cleaning the MAF would be a good idea.
The only issue I has is what to use. The CRC air sensor cleaner thing isn't avalible here according to the internet but I've heard electronic cleaner or brakeleen will do the same job.
Anyone done this? If they don't work I'd rather not do it and wait until I can find a proper MAF cleaner of some kind.
noooooo!!!!
that wire is incredibly sensitive. never use brakleen on it. not sure about electronic cleaner.
That's what I though. Some guy said they pretty much are the same thing but I highly doubt a MAF sensor cleaner is designed to clean as brutally as brakeleen.
Electronic cleaner shoudl work, but I wouldn't want to be the first to test that.
i'll do some research on that
And I'll see if I can find something made for MAF cleaning. If I do I'll just use that.

They got the cans with Norwegian instructions on it, but they don't seem to mention dealers. Over here you can buy it, makes me wonder why they wouldn't sell it in Norway...

guessing it could be due to different environmental regulations ? i would not be suprised if the electric cleaner has 90% of the same components / and quantities as the MAF cleaner, but it's that 10% varying chemical and/or strength in the latter that prohibits its sale and use
don't even get me started on that topic, there are a lot of products found in various states prohibited by this eco-nazi hub known as California - not to mention that I'm still fuming about them taking away my foie gras. we need a revolution here to restore sanity !!!
those eco-nazis are all that stands between the morons who live here and the destruction of the ocean. that ecosystem is incredibly fragile, and is essential to our survival.
Not being originally from Mass, (I grew up a bit on the other coast) it shocks me the general culture of littering that is considered acceptable here in New England, and it shows in the Boston area at least. I can't believe how many people think it is ok to throw trash out the window when driving. Not to mention the amount that think it is OK to drink while driving and throw cans out (I presume to get away with it). I even witness people pulling into the mall and dumping all their trash out of their disgusting cars into the lot, then pulling our and leaving (all fast food wrappers and stuff)
The Charles river which separates Cambridge from Boston and goes to the Boston Harbor, at one point, people considered it normal to pull up a dump truck and empty it into the river in plain daylight. Only recently have fish started to come back with the past 20 years of cleanup work.
Things have changed, but it is scary to think there are things like the movie "A Civil Action" still in play potentially as unknown sites. Everything they did was legal, as they were breaking no laws at the time of the dumping. I think this state has some of the most EPA Superfund sites too.
There are a lot of short sited selfish people in this world.
I wonder why I still live here

no argument there, and as far as the bigger picture is concerned yes, the EPA and Ca in general have lead the effort to preserve and restore the environment and for the most part it's very good thing to embrace, but at a micro-level the many overzealous eco-nut ( for those who object to the term eco-nazis ) bureaucrats have gone completely overboard, and taking things of insignificant impact to unecessary extremes .
One shop here carried the CRC air sensor cleaner. I now have a cleaned MAF

and did it make any difference??
The front grille of my MAF is missing some of it's spokes (or whatever you call them). I know this could have an influence on the airflow. Would it be possible to buy such a grill separately?
I have seen very few MAFs that didn't have some missing pieces in that grill. To me it looks like a PERFECT application for a 3D printer. I hope that someone in this group has one and the CAD skills to set up the program. D1R are you listening?
not that we have found
Yup, not available separately...because there is no way to separate it from the main unit ; it's not simply " plugged" in there, or threaded in, or screwed in, etc.
It's just press fit in there. Not hard to get out at all.
lol - yeah - it comes out one small piece at a time on its own

??? I tried to see if the grill can be removed on two separate MAFs - no chance . Unless they are press fit with superglue which eventually wears off , I don't see how in the world you can pop that out of there .. What's the secret ?
They are just a twist fit, they do come out, ( but probably in several pieces) I managed to obtain two replacements on my MAF from my local OPC was a while ago, but we're not that expensive.
