lol - nope - not another new car........yet

in the process of programming the new i3 homelink mirror to the garage door openers, i burned out the 1/2hp worm drive genie on the double car side. so, i went to get another one. they no longer make that one. so, i picked up a 3/4hp belt drive genie 1000.

the fun didn't end there though. after installing the first one, and being satisfied, upon realizing that now the remotes didn't match, and neither did the units (and that kind of thing makes me crazy) i went out to buy another one, to replace the one remaining working unit. what i did not know was that they were in mid model change. the first one i got was the "revolution" series. the second one, purchased just 2 hours later from the same place, was the "limited edition" series. same model, but a different plastic housing color (now black instead of grey). wanting them both to match, i had to pack it back up, track down the earlier one, and run out and get it and return the black one. what was supposed to be a simple 1 hour job, since i had just done one and it was all still fresh in my mind, turned into a 3 hour extravaganza.

well, the results are in:

that thing is nearly silent!!! it's faster than the worm drive unit too. freaks the dogs out when ayn comes home. they can't hear the garage door, and the i3 is silent too. danged funny.
I've got two Chamberlain whisper drives (silent inside the house) and they are two different colors, since I bought mine months apart I was not going to worry about the color difference. It doesn't matter in my case since my garage isn't even painted and you can still see the mud on the tape lines. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
That's amazing, considering how incredible dogs' hearing is. Could it be that the sound, however slight, is just different than what they're used to? My bet is that they'll catch on to the new, albeit much quieter, sounds. In any case, I'm envious - our openers are ridiculously noisy.

Oh, and I can't resist - will you have to change the belt every 3 years or 30,000 lifts, whichever comes first, lol?
lol - yeah - admittedly my garage is a bit different, and i pay attention to stuff like this. it's really another room of the house.

as for the sound, i doubt it. it's insanely quiet. still, you just never know with dogs.

lol - belt life - 15 year warranty. lifetime on the motor.
Despite all sorts of sprays and lubricants, people in NJ. complain about mine. Of course it's not nearly as noisy as the compressor which wakes the dead!
I thought your nearest neighbor was something like five miles away!
Actually there is a family cemetery on the acreage behind me and a small dilapidated community one across the street. I constantly hear them howl. Course that might be the Owls or coyotes.
