Folks: I have a 95 968 Cab. Over the winter, I plan on replacing the rack which is leaking. I want to replace all hoses and fittings at the same time. Can anyone suggest a list of parts that I would need for this project. I prefer to have everything on hand once I start the work. Also, any good source for a rebuilt rack??

If faced with a $ 4,000 cost , I’ll rather deal with a leak all day long and forever . Unless it’s a massive leak, but from what I’ve seen so far , on my own car and on this forum, the leaks tend to be about a thumbnail size .. But that’s just me, so to each their own .
Well, when faced with a leaking power steering system...I'd check out the hoses first. If that's not the problem and the rack needs to be replaced...I'd rather get a $500 rack versus a $4,300 rack - especially when they're both rebuilt parts.
As I've mentioned before, when I bought the 968, it had just received a "new" steering rack per the paperwork that came with the car. Turns out it was rebuilt (said so on the rack) and the shop that replaced it used hydraulic fluid instead of ATF. It failed very quickly. If I remember correctly, the previous owner paid over $5,000 for the repair.

Had mine rebuild a few years ago , 400E , not at a porsche dealer or porsche specialist , just a regular shop rebuilding powerstearing equipment , ac pumps etc , all brands place .
Came with warranty , had a smal leak and when cold a intermittend hickup not working for less than a second .
They took it appart when i deliverd the rack , took him 5 min or so , he wanted to inspect a few parts , to let me know if he was able to repair the rack , it was within limits , so left it there , and picked it up next day rebuild , new paint on it looking and working as new .
I could have done it my self looking at it , but no way to test it before puting it back in the car , wich they do , came with the test report .
I would look for a specialist in powerstearing equimpment , the parts where not hard to get he said , most off it standard o-rings etc

I haven't tried either of these myself, but here are two additional sources (from reputable/known suppliers) of rebuilt racks. I have a leak in mine I'm trying to track down, so I may not be far behind you. Let us know what other components/hoses you replace at the same time.
