Just had the rear spoiler painted in matching color today ( the aventurine green 968 served as a the test case and I really liked the results, so I had the blue car done as well ) I'm very pleased with the new look.

Somehow ( at least, to my eyes.. ) the car now gives the impression of being a much more recent model, as opposed to the contrasting black spoiler, which although not a bad look by any means, tends to be a bit more "dated" - this now provides more continuity / uniformity with the rest of the body. So instead of people mistaking the car for a 2011-2012 Porsche, they'll now think its the 2016 model
And it's a very cheap fix if at some point in the future I want to switch back. The whole thing cost only $ 400 . ( $ 250 for the spoiler, and then I went back to get the trim along the hatch all painted as well, for another $ 150 ) Had I thought about doing that from the beginning I might have saved about $ 100 because they would not have had to make new paint, prep it twice, etc, etc.
Did you leave the underside black as on your other car or did you get the whole spoiler for that price? BTW it looks great!
I'm going to be busy this spring getting ready for the gathering to keep up with you!
Yes I did leave the underside and the lower spoiler black .
Am I to understand ( from your last comment ) that you have convinced the wife a SC is an essential maintenance requirement for the 968 ?
Perhaps you should look at the Duetche Nine wing. Definitely snazzes up the back of the car!
If it wasn't for those f-ugly brackets and instead it had some stealthy / inconspicuous hydraulic lifters , that might actually be a snazzy mod to consider . But I still hold the view that if you put on mods which make the car look like it's hell on wheels ( a 968 turbo RS wing, or the wide body kits - the Strosek one for example -or even the hood ducts ..albeit the latter might be fine, I like that feature quite a bit on our cars ) you better be able to " back that up " with a SC , or a Turbo . ( Or, if you're a very accomplished driver with solid racing track/autox/etc experience and can outpace a SC or Turbo novice driver with your N/A car.. not impossible, just highly improbable )
Still trying to convince her that an "open differential" has to be replaced with LSD.
Dan, with your SC you can do any mod you want, keep on tunin'
Awwright, get ready for my new exhaust flames thrower ! Oh crap, I can't do that, it may burn off the newly painted spoiler . Well, back to the mod drawing board...
Did you remove any of the pieces, or did they do it while on the car? I am going to paint mine as well in the next couple of weeks. I am considering the B pillars as well but maybe that is too much of the body color. Opinion on that?
Nothing was removed off the cars for the job. And there is really no need to do so.
The interesting thing is that I did not do the hatchback's metal trim sides, pillars, etc on the ( grey-ish ) aventurine green car and it still looks perfect ..blends in very well . But the iris blue is a much stronger contrast with black and just the painted spoiler without the rest looked odd to me. That's why I think Bob's ( az ) white car would also look very strange if the sides are not painted . As for Wimbledon green ..hard to say but what I would suggest is , if you have a sophisticated photoshop program, do a test photo of each variation and see what you think before you decide . Either way I don't think there is any reason to have the underside or the lower wing painted - it's not visible until you pop up tne hatchback, and then I actually like the two-tone " thing " - it's subtle , just like an expensive two-tone jacket or sweater, not something necessarily seen from the outside except for small hints, but then tne uniqueness of having that different look is pretty cool ( IMO ) .
Yeah, I think on a white car there needs to be more white than black. I don't want to paint the B pillars (they are black) so I need to keep enough black trim to blend. There's a shop in town that does cars for SEMA that I need to talk this over with after playing with photoshop. Dan, stop raising the bar?
Anyone use klasse products?
