I have noticed that some 968's comes with a front engine/radiator cover that stretches all around the air filter. Then again, it's missing on many other photo's I have seen posted. Where they all equipped with this?

As I understand it those covers were discontinued on the later cars.my cab was made in April 1993 and it has all the covers,but I think by 1994 they were no longer putting on at least the front covers,but the one by the firewall maybe lasted longer? There are other threads here on the forum that describe in detail
correct. mid 94 they deleted them. there were a number of components deleted and/or changed at that point. they were trying to reduce the manufacturing cost of the car.
the upside is they did add air filters into the hvac system
And nicer seats, and stronger rods, so I'd say a very decent upside for the ( aesthetic ) loss of the front engine cover . When the car was NA ( pre-SC ) I bought that cover and retrofitted it to my 94.5 just because I liked it a lot . Replaced the OE gloves in the cover's cubby with Mechanix gloves though ..just in case I had to work on the car while away from the garage ( those of you familiar with my mechanical aptitude know that my definition of " work " is limited to changing a fuse or a relay , or tightening the throttle cable )
i actually prefer the early seats. they were a LOT more comfortable. i had the early ones in the blue car, and have the late ones in the white car. i get very tired and squirmy much earlier in the late seats than i ever did in the early ones.
If your car had the cover, you would notice the two tabs were it attaches to. One on either side.
It may depend on the body type sitting in those seats but after driving 944s ( equipped with the early seats ) for about 18 years, and 969s ( with the new 993 seats ) for about 12 years, daily, and on numerous long ( 800 + mile ) drives , at 5'11" and 190 + lbs, I can categorically tell you that the newer style seats are A LOT more comfortable , and far less tiring on the body than the old ones. What I found to be incredibly uncomfortable are the OE SPORT seats in the 968 . And to think those are highly sought .. but then again, it depends on the body type ; for slim people they might be ok .
Even if your car does not have the brackets, you can just drop the cover in there and it'll stay put very nicely without a problem. Sure it will have a little wiggle room if not secured with the brackets and you'd think it may rattle but it doesn't . You can also place two small rubber stoppers on either side of the cover against the frame walls and pretty much immobilize it, if the idea of it wiggling a bit drives you nuts.
perhaps to you they are. they don't fit me at all. i've driven an awful lot of 968s too, and it has always been the same. the larger pads are less conforming. i prefer the smaller individual pads, which more easily form to my contours. i drove 39 hours with only a 3 hour break in the early seats, and felt fine when i got out. i can't make 3 hours in the later ones without squirming. the trip to paso in the white car made me crazy.
my wife likes the seats in the X5 better than the ones in the denali, and i'm reverse of that too
thankfully, the seats in the targa are 18 way adjustable, heated and cooled. i think i can make both of us happy
My 1994 Cab (built 2/94) had no covers and 993 style seats.
I purchased a very early cover (front and back) and re-upholstered the seats.

yeah - i think the turnover point might have been late 93 build. i knew exactly where it was at one point, but have long since forgotten. i know the rods were in october 93.
Thanks for all the good info. It looks like they were deleted when the '94 production started (not the "fake" 94's 718) I am missing both front and back (picture) but like them. Are they to be found anywhere?
sure. every guy with a supercharger kit had to delete the front one.
i think they are still available new too.
The dealers can still order them, I just got a front rear one (is that a location?), the one that is just in front of the battery, after the mounting tabs on my old one broke.
Over in the UK they didn't come on the Sport or Club Sport.
yeah - that was part of trying to lighten them up
Makes perfect Porsche sense, that would save at least, what , all of about ...4 oz ?!
lol - all in all, when they deleted the ac, power seats, those pieces, and a whole lot of interior stuff, they dropped 110 lbs. fine for a track rat, but not what this car was best designed to be, which is a GT.

How about the spare tire which weighs a ton ? Sorry, I realize that's a different conversation, was just curious ...
Back to the front cover ; no idea what I did with mine, but then given the organization of my garage :glare: and the crawl space, both packed with boxes wall to wall , I would not even notice an entire car in all of the clutter.
I took my tire out of the track car when it was stripped. Now the CoolShirt box is positioned over that spot. I forget what the weight savings were. Every lb. counts!
Yes, the covers can be found OEM $400 front and back. Not sure I would spend that kind of money on new ones. I would love to find some used covers at $100/$150 (both)
