Full Version: Hello from Salt Lake City - Me and my bastard "948"

I've been a long time Porsche 944/951 owner, and have been looking for the right 968 to come along and enter my life.  In the mean time I have a basterd 968, a 1988 944 with the front clip off a 968 (Fresh 3.0L rebuild, Supercharged, NOS [custom controller], Rogue Tuning MAF, 14point7 Wideband Controller, Koni Sport shock/strut, Weltmeister 200# Springs, Lindsey Racing 3" exhaust [headers to tail], LR front and rear sway bars, KLR strut tower brace, and more). I call it a 948.  I spend most of my weekends under my car, and I've spent way more than the car would ever be able to sell for - I'd never sell it anyway.  If I'm not working on it I'm driving it.  I daily drive my 948 to work - snow tires for the winter.  The days I don't drive to work I'm riding in on two wheels - My KTM SuperDuke or my commuter bicycle.

I'm a software engineer, and I enjoy playing with the electrics in my car.  The Nitrous in my car is controlled by an Arduino setup that monitors throttle position, MAF, MAP, WideBand 02, and RPM to determine how much NOS/Fuel to add by modulating the solenoids.  This allows the NOS to come on earlier than it would traditionally - I slowly ramp the NOS/Fuel up until I reach my desired max.

The supercharger is an Eaton M90 off a Pontiac and is running 8-9 PSI for now.  I converted to the Nissan Quest alternator (it is smaller), and custom machined a new bracket/motor mount that holds the alternator and supercharger.   I need to make some custom pulleys so I can play with the boost levels - I'm not sure how much  more boost I want, this is my daily so I don't want to kill her...  The supercharger is currently running the stock 944 belt width (the Pontiac has an extra two ribs).  I plan on machining a custom pulley set that will allow me to run a wider belt - under harsh engine acceleration with the AC on the belt can slip.   I haven't dyno'd the car so I really have no idea how much power it makes or how fast she is, but it feels quite a bit quicker than my old 89-951.

I haven't done much in the way of forums for the 944/951/968, but I've enjoyed the Facebook pages for these cars - I think I enjoy the format of that better sometimes.  I'm hoping as I venture into a "real" 968 that this forum will help me on my way.

Welcome,

You will find many useful threads here, and it sounds like you have a lot to offer.

When your post count rises a bit, I'm sure we would all like to see some pics.

You need to drive that bad boy out to Tahoe for the 968 gathering this July!

Welcome!
Welcome!  That KTM is a real fun toy!

Sounds like we got a FLASH clone here. Welcome to the site

No not a Flash clone... in fact just the opposite... well at least as long as he keeps the 948...  (Welcome, my philosophy is similar though not quite as extreme.)
