Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the two short cables (about 5 inches with lug connectors) on each side is on the 968 top? When the top is down, they are under tension, when the top is up, the are slack. When these break, what other damage can be done. Thanks in advance..

Hi Bob, I found no mention about the short cables. I would venture to say that nearly ALL Cab owners have placed their cab tops into the manual position due to Main Bow breakage. Some have had the Main Bow welded, and most good welders do not want to touch it. That thing is like pot metal. A new one is like finding hen's teeth. I have mine disengaged and it is not hard to put the top up or down manually. I'm 76 and if I don't find it hard no one should. You will find more info in the DIY Library.

Cheers,
Larry
Thanks Larry. If a person need to know one thing about the 968 Cab, it is to put the top in the manual mode. However, I am still curious as to what the purpose of the short cable are and it is a problem not to have them in place. Here is a picture of one of the cables on my car.
