Wow $100k more than the last sale of one of the original 4. Wouldn't be surprised if mine went up 28% over the same time period.

Sadly, the buyer will probably never drive / race that car . It's just a trophy purchase for the exclusivity of having one of 4 ever made. Besides, for a small fraction of that price you can buy a race car which will annihilate the 968 turbo RS on the track , so why even bother ?
07-26-2016, 07:25 PM
yeah - i don't get that at all
07-26-2016, 07:48 PM
Its not about performance. Its not about much of anything that makes sense or can be measured. Its all about 1 of 4 in the world. And if I had that much spare money and a garage to store it I would buy it and then drive it too. Just for fun. And to brag. We have evolved to be irrational - I also want to visit the Galapagos Islands.
I have some rare Rolling Stones records, perhaps 1 of only a few left. The CDs sound better, are easier to play and will last longer with less effort. But, I sure love having them.

Yes, cannot argue with that aspect.

I always say - if you are going to brag you should try to brag about something for which the probability of being outbragged by someone else with the same item but better is vanishingly small. This likely fits that caveat.

Vinyl sounds so much better than CDS, by a lot. Only problem is balancing the turntable so the arm doesn't skip under hard accelaration or cornering. Thus, CDs. Hang onto the Stones album, you can't always get what you want.
I saw one last year at Rennsport and I need one to spice up my collection of Toyotas.

Hmmm, scratching my head ; let's see...for that price do I buy a 968 turbo RS or a Ford GT ? Although anyone with that kind of disposable cash for a car, probably already has a Ford GT in the collection ..
07-27-2016, 12:16 PM
hmmm - not sure why there would ever be any interest. the turbo RS had a max of 350hp. did that in the blue car. no interior, noisy, can't be driven on the street. not competitive on the track (never was). i get the idea of rarity, as i had arguably the rarest of street versions of the 968, and that had its attractions, but i think i'd rather have the turbine powered chrysler or the batmobile than the yellow RS.

Speaking of rare, isn't the 968 itself very rare compared to the other major Porsche models? 356, 911, 914, 924, 928, 944, even 964 and the 944 Turbo, were all produced in far higher numbers than the 968. And the rest -- "fa'get about it" : Boxster, 996 and on, Cayenne, Cayman, Panamera, etc. 968 production is less than all of them making it the most rare of all (with the exception of specialty models).

Yes, there were over 76,000 356s made...our cars are destined to be very valuable, you just have to live long enough, and hope that there are still fossil fuels

lol - i may have yet again chosen a rare one. it is said that only about 2000 991 targas are going to be made, which would make it even rarer than the 968. on top of that, mine is a GTS, and there are only a few dozen of those. add to that my 1 of 1 color combination, and i may have one of the rarest porsches of all again.

Jay you also have to live that long!

LOL. Someone just wrote that my 15 Boxster might be the collectible one as the last of the 6 cylinders. Just saying. Buy in my case, Porsche Financial will be the benefactor on my lease end.

No, I am the one with the rarest Porsche of all ; the only D1R SC'd tiptronic on planet earth.
So it's one of one . And I'll gladly sell it for less than the much more common one of FOUR turbo RS ! :-) $ 250,000 and I'll have it shipped anywhere in the world for no additional charge .

How much?

What, less than half of the turbo RS price is not enough of a bargain for you ?! ;-)

No, I have the rarest Porsche in the whole world. Check this out: 1993 968 Coupe, Tiptronic, Silver over Grey, B&B exhaust, cup holder, Koni shocks, a home made splice in the transmission cooling lines going to the radiator, a worn driver's seat, a black shoe stain on the passenger's floor mat, a scratch at about 7:00 on the right rear quarter panel, intermittent power sun roof, unpredictable temperature gauge, the cable to the cruise control unit is laid over the decorative engine cover rather than underneath it, salvage title including pictures of it being winched out of a ditch, wife and all kids have driven it (a seriously valuable Provenance), absolutely no french fries fallen between the seats and the center console, no spilled baby formula, has never seen a Big Gulp inside, custom browning color present on the tops of the door panels, recent application of Rejex on the wheels, always garaged (except while driving), -- and the unique characteristics go on an on.
This combination of features is not available anywhere else in the world, making it incredibly rare and only 1-of-1!
