Ok, I have a new pair of Infinity Kappa 5 1/4s that arrived today. I'd like to get them in ASAP, but am not sure what to do with this crossover.



I'm no speaker expert. Attached is the diagram they give. Basically, I assume the stock setup has output wires from the head unit to the 5 1/4, and then an 'internal' crossover in the 5 1/4 that outputs to the tweeter.



With these new speakers, it looks like I bring the 'input' from the head unit/amp into the crossover, then into the two connections on the speaker, woofer and tweeter. I am assuming I can just attach the stock tweeter to the 'tweeter' side of the speakers, and that will work just fine? (So effectively, I'll be using the tweeter part of the new speaker, and also the little mini tweeter that is stock in the car)



Does that sound reasonable to those of you in the know?

I don't know if I would use the stock tweeters. Not only are you going to change the impedance, but the "design" of the kappa 's will be changed by you putting in a speaker that was not meant to be.



That being said, try it and see how it sounds both ways.

If you connect the output of the crossover to booth sets of tweeters then you will be putting the tweeters in parallel. This reduces the total impedance of your speakers as seen by the head unit. Here's a link to a page that has a good explanation of the effects of doing this.

Ok, did the install this afternoon. Rear speakers, 10 mins. Front speakers, 3 hours. The rears were plug and play, front ones involved cutting some extra space and also splicing some wires, etc. I'll post a write up in the DIY section today.



Flash, attached is a pic of the back of the stock nokia speakers. Also, if anyone has any desire for them, I have the rear and front ones. All seem to be in ok shape, no rips or tears.
