ron bradley (silverblt) stopped by friday on his way to take his new toy home to sacramento - he bought the silver 94 from virgil in newport beach (whom we've seen at crystal cove) - this car has less than 60k on it, polished cup 2s and a black interior - the paint is fresh, and they pulled the panels to do it
after ron (midblu) and i were done giving the car a once-over, and making a few adjustments to things like the front bumper cover, the throttle cable and tire pressures, it was time for a test drive - nice tight car - a couple of little things to do (to which ron is looking forward) and this will be a great car - he's going to have a lot of fun - he's already buying stuff for the car
i look forward to seeing him at a lot of events - dan, you need to make sure he is on your list
here are some shots from the day

Flash and Ron (midblu),
You guys are very friendly and gracious, made me feel like I'd changed my oil in the garage before. (wasn't mine that was leaking (Ron) ).
On my long drive home, (about 10 hours by the time I left Bob's house,) I stopped by for a quick lesson on the 968 from Flash. Trying not to be rude, but having my eyeballs floating I immediatly used the facilities at flashes house. By the time I came back out to my car Flash and Ron (midblu) had the hood, both doors, and the hatch all opened up for inspection. Both are great guys that have a lot of knoledge about these cars. I felt like I was in the middle of a pitt stop at a grand prix race. Flash wrestled with the front bumper cover for about 15 minuites but finally won over the overtightened bolts! (good job on those by the way, I would of stripped 'em) Ron meanwhile explained the finer points of the 968, like how to turn off the Air Cond. that I had running for the last 1.5 hours. Bad on me.
He also explained about the rear hatch bolts/nuts and how to properly close the hatch over the studs. Don't use the wing! ( I remembered) After adding about 1/2 qt. of oil to the motor, They noticed my voltmeter was reading on the high side, Topped out at the MAX! not so good. Flash put a voltmeter on and measured about 16 or so volts from the alternator at the battery, bummer, it needs a new voltage regulator. Saturday afternoon, not today. I had to take my chances on driving home and not blowing up the electrical system or leave the car until Monday? Uhhhh, I made it home no problem, ( I got lucky). On the way home I was greeted and complemented on my 968 by a young 20 something driver in a MB AMG Renntech that cost as much as my house, not kidding! He was a nice guy and I followed him through a few twisties before he lost me on the straights. I think Ron saw this car as well. $$$$$ . On I5 I found a clearing and opened her up to ~125 a couple of times, pretty quick car for a 4 banger.
Worked on Sunday rebuilding my son's home, worked on the car and washed the bugs off of it on Monday. First thing I did is order a new VR. I also removed the useless rear wiper arm and made a plug/filler with a carriage bolt painted black, a little silicone and it looks perfect. (filed off the bolt grade #s first of course)
Thanks Flash and Midblu for you friendship and help with the 968. Flash even called me on Monday to see if I (more likely) my car made it home OK. Nice people. Thank you both. Anyone who accuses flash of trying to get performance chips for free is just a Dumba$$, he's doing just fine, nice wife too.
About the car.......Yep, I spent too much and it needs a lot of work, love and new parts. Sorry? Nope! I own a Porsche 968 and I'm proud of my redheadded-stepchild I have already started the mods......... Thanks guys.........
This is exactly what I am talking about, your experience is not uncommon. All of the people on .net that want to bury the guy need to realize his intentions are good... Bob and Ron are just two of the many guys in CA that will bend over backwards to help you out. I am glad to have you on board!
awwwww - can ya feel the love in the room? kumbaya
seriously though - happy to do it - we all have to stick together don't we?
ron, it was great meeting you and i am sure you're going to enjoy this car and the other people that own them and enjoy them too
keep yours eyes peeled for events - dan is coming down for the one in april - you may want to caravan down - maybe you guys can even get a group together

Oops... I always use the wing. What's the "right" way?

I assume you meant to say bend over backward...

lol! Yep that is what I meant
DOH!!!!
ok - that's just plain funny
Ron,
welcome to the Northern Cal chapter of the group ! I trust you don't mind if I add you to the email list for upcoming events, etc. good to have another member in this general area and I'm sure you'll probably touch base soon enough with Buzz and Sam, and Mark who live a bit closer to you. That being said I look forward to meeting you at the next 968 get together.
As for April if you do drive down it might be tough to caravan for a couple of reasons: it would probably not make much sense for you to take anything other
than hwy 5, and little sense for me to use anything but 101.
Also, come on... I leave my driveway going 125mph , going to LA is where the fun begins allowing you to really stomp on it.
if you're new to the 968 world and live in or near SoCal, it doesn't get any better than Flash, Dave G., and Inspector Ron!
I agree with Eric and Gene's comments ...and I don't even live in So Cal !
Speaking of Inspector Ron, I haven't seen many ( any ? ) posts from him
in a while. 'SUP Ron ? Every time you sit at the keyboard to post something a spec of dust lands on your car and you feel compelled to run out immediately and wipe it, following up with a touch of polish over the spot...and thus no chance to
write any more ?
Ron,
Where are you in Sacramento, I live in South landpark and work downtown - so if you see a black coupe flying by that would be me - mine's my daily driver - welcome to the fold your going to love your car.
Yours makes at least four that I know of in Sacramento -me, Buzz, another Ron and Mark
Sam
Inspector Ron?????
Damn, that makes two of us. I am a building / home inspector, what kind of inspector is the other Ron (midblu)?
Flash may bend over to help others out......but......I'm not of that persuasion myself........
EEZATOY-------I've PM you with my phone #, give me a call plz. Glad to be one of the few....the proud..... the owners of the "red-headded stepchild" owners. I'm looking for parts houses here in Sacto. other than the $$$$dealership.
I enjoyed driving the car up from LA, and yes only ~125, still a new car for me....driveway speed huh?
Does this car make my butt look fat? I have a hard time sitting at the bottom of the seat, my hip bones are pinched by the bolsters. I'm not that big of a guy 6' and 205 lbs. anybody else have this issue? Does the seat need more padding on the bottom or do I need to loose some baggage?
Wow!...
With all the 'luv' out there it makes me want to move to Cal !!!!
I think Ron is boycotting the board! LOL I heard he has been pretty busy lately... or he may be lurking!

I drive to LA about 3 or 4 times annually; on the last trip ( ironically, near the Soledad correctional facility ) my speedometer touched the 160 mark, but I only
kept it there for 10-15 seconds..which seemed like an eternity. Very stable car at that speed, but a bit unsettling to drive that fast, nonetheless. Now, the speedo error at that level may be as much as 5 to 7 miles off, so I could have been going a bit slower..but still enough to be hauled right into Soledad
As for fitting in the seat, I am also 6' and about 195 lbs so it's just ok, but I agree that the seats are on the narrow side for us "full-figured" guys
Ken,
Yup. It's all about group hugs in this Golden State of ours. What's holding you back from joining this love fest ?
ron's new job has kept him pretty busy - i have stuff here to install on his car, and he hasn't had the time for even that - i talked to him the other day, and we hope to get together for the april event, but he won't make the speed fest
"Yup. It's all about group hugs in this Golden State of ours. What's holding you back from joining this love fest ? "
Been here too long, 25+ years in Colorado, not really a bad place to be !
Too many cars to move (6) !
Too much stuff (can I say crap) to move!
Probably couldn't afford the same 'level' of house !
Job !
Her !
I know, just excuses...
We do get out there about once a year, do love the weather...
