I'm having problems with an airbag lamp that will not go out and a controller that will not reset. Checked with sunset, part is $ 1440, the part seems to be a generic part from Siemens. I know that BMW used the same systems in contemporary 5 & 7 series cars. Does anyone know if:

-The unit can be repaired at a cost less than $1440

-The unit has Porsche specific soft/hardware? I know that BMW uses optically identical siemens parts and suspect they are less expensive

-Anyone who disengaged the system and have a spare controller? Partno is: 944-618-217-02

TIA

i don't have any words of advice for you. just wanted to chirp in and let you know that i had my airbag light reset at the dealership last week and they warned me that my controller might have to be replaced soon as well. they quoted me a price around $2000 to do the work. naturally, i laughed and figured worst case, i'd just unplug the darned thing.

i'll be interested to hear any wisdom people have on this topic.
I'll be glad to help you out. We're in the process of removing mine.

I'm trying to help out Marcus...can anyone tell me if the controller from my '95 coupe will work for his car...His car is a '92.

My part number is 944.618.217.02

Thanks,

Jason
Looks like the same part number for all years according to PET, so I would think it should be ok.
Brian - what did the dealer charge you for the reset? Any other way to get it reset? Mine's on after an unexpected month-long sit that ran down the battery.
Only way to reset is with the Bosch Hammer with 968 software installed. My dealer has been nice enough to reset my twice for "no charge" and once for $50. I thi.nk someone should spring for the hammer and then loan it to the rest of us when we have the problem. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Bought the parts from Jason, thanks! Now that I'm about to install, anything I should think of in particular?

I will disconnect the battery and leave the terminals off for an hour or so before starting to work on the car. Anything else?

Anyone knows a good way of removing the 'secure' nuts without getting the special tool?

Thanks
