I saw this and was wondering if this is a common conversion...if so, are you happy without PS?

i'm wondering how many turns lock to lock - i'd like to get it down under 3
Delete power steering and get the ratio down to under three turns lock to lock? You'll definitely need the steering system I had in my first Corvette - power by Armstrong.
Not quite the same, but you can simulate the effect by taking off the PS belt.

As for a true mod, assuming it's the same system as for the 944's (I can't imagine why it wouldn't be), you'll be looking at greater lock-to-lock. I got this info from the 944 world:

manual

----------

steering wheel ratio 22.39:1

turns lock to lock 3.84-4.02

power

-----------

steering wheel ratio LHD 18.85:1/RHD 18.96:1

turns lock to lock LHD 3.24/RHD 3.26

IMO, it's not a worthwhile modification for a street car, unless your PS system is completely toast.
I've removed the PS pump and plumbing on the race car. I find it gives better feedback on the track plus there is less weight, one less accessory driven by the engine and less stuff that can break. It is a bit heavy handed at low speed but you don't find that a problem on the race track.

I have a manual rack to install but I haven't done it yet so I can't compare.

I'm thinking of the unit on E-bay...can anybody give me some info on the people selling it?

Is there that much to worry about?

Jason
968Gene,

Thanks for the lead...

I decided to buy this unit and remove my p/s setup.

I'll let everyone know how it feels when done.

Flash, figure I lost approx 10 lbs with the removal of p/s pump and lines?
