either lost my wheel lock key or cant find it . need to take the wheels off to put new brakes on . what is the best way for me to get another key or are the other ways to get the wheels off with out it ?
and this is why i don't believe in lug locks - this happened to me once - now i let the insurance company handle it if my wheels are ever stolen (like tht happens anymore)
spanking over
i don't suppose you know which number the key is?
was it the early key type, or the later over the lug type?
if the latter, go to a dealership - they should have a master set - the later type locks are made by mcgard - have the dealership remove your locks and tell you which key number (1-50) they used
then, if you are stuck on having lug locks, go to
www.mcgard.com and order your key for 16 bucks - you'll save quite a bit - mcgard is fast and easy and will sell direct
if you have the early type that use a regular key, i have no idea how to handle that one
I went thru this 12 years back with a 944 that had a bay lock. The dealership can remove it...or you can. I have attached the WSM pages. I decided NOT to go to the dealership and instead, I picked the lock. It was corroded and tumblers jammed. I got it off after about an hour (If CRS hasn't hit me yet).
I agree with Flash, dump the keys and go with the later 1-50 locks he suggested. Wheel theft isn't a big as it used to be (knock on wood).
Good luck
that had to be a job - i'm hoping he has the later type so he can easily remove them
i would seriously think about not using locks at all - i wouldn't have had them on this car at all if it didn't already come with them - my mistake was not removing them immediately
i now run all nice new chrome steel lugnuts (can't use aluminum ones on the track for racing)
