I just installed the BULLDOG with pop trunk relay from 968 Engineering.
I am trying to determine if I need new trunk struts.
When I pop the trunk it comes up about 1/4", enough to get under the lip of the trunk and lift it up. Will new struts lift up the trunk lid a bit higher than that? If so how high?
Since I bought the 968 I have only replaced the engine lid struts that were bad.
In my 944 in warm weather the hatch would raise on its own (very nice). As soon as it was cooler than about 50 F, it needed a little help.
My 968 hatch has NEVER raised on its own. And to think Porsche charged $40,000 or so for this car!
Maybe others have different experience with the 968 hatch?
Neither the "hatch" (coupe) nor "decklid" cab are designed to open on their own.
If you want the decklid to open a bit further, try twisting outward the two rubber stops on the inside corners. The added compression on the rubber will cause the decklid to open a bit more, enough to get your fingers in there.
RUSTECH,
Thanks, worked just fine. Now the decklid pops up enough.
When I had my rear wiper motor off for repair (a couple months till I got around to fixing it) my trunk popped up on it's own all the time. Once I reinstalled the wiper motor, never pops up anymore. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
So, if you really want it to pop, replace the struts and remove the wiper motor... it will pop.
I never really liked it when mine popped up (trunk hatch, that is...just to be very clear). In fact...I don't know how it happened exactly, but I was at a stop light one time and I hit the button with my food or something.... It went all the way up...and of course...the light turned green....so.. I figure if it releases it enough to pick it up without trouble then that's probably best.
