I can't seem to navigate the search engine well enough, apologize if it's hiding in plain site, but:

1) Where can I get the replacement pads for the Variocam?

2) Does anyone have a line on a higher-performance radiator?

Car is F-Stock PCA Racer, so I must keep the A/C condenser in place as well. Prefer an all-metal radiator to the plastic/aluminum stock unit, if practical.

Thanks in advance,
I got my pads from Sunset. I can't offer any info re radiator.
Have you tried Zims ?? I've used them for years on all my Porsches with great success.

PFZ
I got variocam pads from Karl at Racers Edge. I'm sure Pete at RSBarn or Paragon could also be good sources.

Jason Judd has a heritage radiator in his turbo. Maybe he will chime in.

Eric
Call Jason at Heritage Motorcar Research for the oversize radiator.

Does anyone have a web address or telephone number for any of these sources for the cam pads?

I am in the process of rebuilding a 1992 968 with 94K miles on it. Debating on replacing cam pads or the entire tensioner .

Thoughts ?

Stephen
Great! Thanks guys. Time crunch as car is apart now and I am hitting the road soon. 968Forums comes through again!
I have cam pads in stock at best price. I am overstocked at the moment.

[attachment=1352]AH, the big radiator!!!

I had Fluidyne make me a larger one for my Turbo RS. What a hassle to fit. Still fiddling around with it. I would seriously consider a larger oil cooler vs. larger rad. The stock rad keeps coolant at ok temp but under track conditions oil gets hot. I installed a larger oil cooler with AN lines and my oil temp never gets above 220 degrees on a Turbo which also has the oil cooling the turbo which gets mighty hot.

Pete
Pete with the cam pads, How do I contact you ???

Stephen, when I had my Variocam mechanism inspected at 100,000 miles we only replaced the pads since the tensioner was not leaking and still maintained the correct tension on the chain. Replacing the tensioner would have added another $1,000 to the cost. Prices on most Porsche parts have been going up since then and I imagine it is even more expensive now. If it aint broke, don't fix it! You can send Pete a message by clicking on his "Handle" in the left column. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Ok next question related to the same area. I have heard of failure of the oil tube that supplies the cam tensioner. It a tube bolted securely on both ends. What and how can this fail.

Anyone heard of failure of this part???

Stephen
Extreme vibration (from an incorrectly tensioned cam drive belt or balance shaft belt or worn out motor mounts) could cause the tube to break loose or crack. I have never seen this happen. Good luck, bob Blackwell.
I believe that the tube is only bolted at the top. It has to be removed to remove the head.

Perhaps you are confusing this with the oil pickup tube in the oil pan. Don't ask how I know these can fail!

Brett
I have the cam tensioner pads @$24.72 each

I also have cam chains @$28.78
Great! You'll probably get a call from the shop that has my car right now, R. Fischer MotorSports.

Thanks,
