Need help, My mechanic has informed me that my issue with my 1993 968 Tiptronic Cab is the torque tube, and we are having a very difficult time in trying to track one down. can anybody point us to someone or a vendor that I can get this part?. Any help is appreciated.
why would you replace the entire tube? normally you just replace the bearings
There is one on ebay, in the UK, a little over $200. Item number: 282234708712
Also do a search on "Porsche 968 torque tube" and some rebuild places surfaced.
there is one on each coast that i know of, and have done work for me, with which i was satisfied. the best one is black sea.
Called Black Sea and they were very helpfull and informed me that I would need a SPLIT torque tube and they don't service this part.
weird. the last time i talked to them, the one that they would not service was the split tube. maybe they meant that you had a split one, and they won't do those, because typically they do a core/exchange deal. check and see if yours has a split in it. basically it would look like a 1/8 "-1/4" wide slot at one end.
You are correct, I have the split one and they don't service those. Any advise????
EDM, you might get some help on a post over on R.L..
Well I can not delete the below link for some reason. Go over to Rennlist.com and on the Water Cooled 944 / 968 postings look for the post of Der Treiber , TT Bearing question , 1-19-17. This is a good post and even shows the pictures they are talking about how to affix the bearings with steel pop rivets.
