Hello fellow euro 968ers.
One of my rear fog lamps is out. I think the spec for a replacement bulb is BA15s, but I'm not sure the wattage. You can find 21W bulbs for rear lights in that socket size, but I think that's too bright, it'll look like the brake lights are on. Can someone confirm that it's a BA15s and a lower wattage bulb?
Thanks!
/D

What does a "rear fog light" do.......are you talking about the back up light?
I think that European cars had rear fog lights in addition to back up/signal/brake lights. My Cayenne has a rear fog light.
Indeed. Cars over here do have specific fog lights, to be used only in fog or heavy rain. Fog lights have the same light intensity of brake lights. I took one out of my car to check. They are 21W.
The fog lights are the bright ones near the center of the rear of the car.

Interesting!!!...so there is a bright white(or is it white?) light beside the standard red tail light shining towards the on coming cars?... In case of heavy ground (tule) fog or rain you say. Do you turn them on manually?
be warned: those rear fog lights are not legal in the United States. no white light may point to the rear while driving on any public road. this is a very quick way to piss off the cop, and get a ticket. lol - don't ask me how i know. ouch!
But there is a kit where you can add an extra brake or driving light bulb in the rear light cluster (producing red light). Designed for 944 so not a direct simple install for 968 (the 944 has an easy to make receptacle for the bulb in the rear light housing), But that can improve rear visibility when either driving with headlights on or when applying the brakes. But no rear fog, I guess we don't have fog over here.
lol - another thing to hook up to the "brake light kill switch"
Both of my Audi's have functional rear fog lights. The are red in color and activated when the front fog lights are turned on.
yup - seen those. red is ok in the US. i hate driving behind them though.
White is not a rear fog lamp in any EU country, they have to be red
Indeed red. Only back-up lights are allowed to be white. The button is next to the one that turns on the front fog lights. The rears can only be activated when the fronts are on.
It is unusual in the US to be able to turn the fog lights on (front) without having your main headlights on. This feature was available on both my 944 and 928 in the past. I use the lights as daylight running lights on my 968. I notice that this feature is not available on newer cars as main headlights must be on before you can activate fog lights. Strictly US stuff guys?
I wonder if it's all newer cars, including newer Porsches .
In my Cayenne the rear fog light can only be turned on if the headlight switch is "on", not on "auto" and the front fogs lights are turned on first.
by law, in the most states in the US, fog lights and/or auxiliary driving lights may only be used in conjunction with the main headlights.
that being said, on the 968, you can turn on the fog lights with the headlight switch in only the "parking light" position. it just isn't legal to drive that way
Here in Canada it is because they would be the daytime driving lights. If you install the relay for that then the fog lights are used at DRL when the ignition is on.
And yet driving in a snow storm is better to drive with only fog lights on in the front as not a lot of reflection from the snow.
Possible, but illegal here too. On our 2013 Skoda it's impossible to turn on the fog lights without turning on the head lights first.
Here in Canada, when Skodas were common in the 80s, I heard a guy go into an auto parts store and ask if he could get a gas cap for his Skoda. The guy at the desk thought about it and then said "seems like a fair trade to me".
Just to show you that Canadian guys have humour (even if we spell it differently).
