Does anybody here use the short shifter that is the linkage on the transmission? If so where do I get it?
Yes, I have had it for over a year and really like it. The stock throw is way too long in my opinion. I believe there were some early issues with getting into reverse, but I never had any problems....just a bit stiffer feel. Unfortunately, it seems like they might not be available anymore. They were available via www.944racing.com, but that site has gone away. You may want to try the following contact info I found on the "other" 968 forum...

Jeff H. Hinkle

I bought mine from Jeff and it seemed like they were liquidating via eBay at the time. I have misplaced his email address. You may want to keep an eye on ebay if you can't reach him otherwise.

Update: I did a bit of searching and I think this is his ebay profile, which has some recent auctions, but is no longer active?

If you look at his recent items, the email address is now apparently 944racers@cox.net

Hopefully he has one available for you. You should post back any findings, as there are probably others interested in this and maybe you could get him to make another batch. Just a thought. Good luck.
i have it too - love it

last time i heard, which was about 3 months ago or so, jeff was not in a position to be making these anymore

best of luck - there are quite a few guys who would like one
That's a shame. It seems like it would be a relatively easy part to make.....just a few pieces welded together with a sperical bearing attached. A similar design is still available for 944's, so it probably just needs some different angles for our trannies.
No personal experience, but Paragon has one.
Could you provide us a link? I can't find it.

Thanks

I see a short shift kit for the 944 but not for the 968.
So YOU are the one that stole my name!

I may be mistaken. Maybe it was just a 944. I'll ask Jason next time I call, but I thought there was a 968 version as well.
Just curious if there is that much different between the 968 and the 951 linkages. I understand different gears and pattern, but I could see a 944 unit fitting if not directly with little modification? Any input?

Wes
yes, they are different - the instructions that came with my unit were for the 944 - very different piece - so much so that the instructions were useless

Yea, I am the original Bart. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

A rare name and a rare car. Never would have guessed finding another Bart owning a 968.
The reason I ask is that I installed one of those ebay shift blocks and really didn't notice any throw difference. Though now the shifter is very stiff and will not return to the middle neutral position easily. Has anybody installed one of these shifter blocks sucessfully?

Are you talking about the one from StuttgartMotors?

yes I installed it while I was rebuilding my transmission. I don't think my throws are really any shorter. It is very stiff, but I can't blame the shift block until I install a stock plastic block or new short shifter. I wonder if I can get one made? I have a friend who is a fabricator.

Thanks, Rob
I bought one of these shifters a couple of years ago when there was a group buy on 968.net. It got misplaced during a move. I recently found it again and would like to install it but don't have the instructions (they were on the website). Would any of you that have done the install happen to have a copy?

Best,

WA
Check the DIY secrtion - I beleive there is a copy of the instructions archived there
