Caught the end of Indy and then highlights on ESPN, nice race and finish. I wanted to see Marco beat Michael. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Monaco was eventful but as usual the director sucked, Bernie really needs to hire some guys who know what they are doing and make them permanent at all races.
I watched the F1 race then switched to Indy during commercials. No a fan of "left turn" racing (open wheel or NASCAR). The F1 from Monaco has got to be one of the scariest venues on the circuit. Would have liked to have seen a duel between Schumacher and Alonso but that "stunt" he pulled in qualifying was amateutish at best. The commentary on CBS was awful, I had to turn the sound off. Marco certainly didn't have the speed of Hornish, duh, but it would have been an amazing finish with an Andretti 1 - 2. DANICA SMANICA. All hype and no go.
That was a spectacular finish! What I found amazing was the closing rate Hornish's car - it came up so fast and blew past Marco's car.
My hat's off to Marco, he could've made some defensive moves, but showed his sportmanship - quite admirable for someone of only 19y.o.
It was like Micheal was out on a Sunday drive - sadly he had a slow car...
The Nascar race was a grueling 600 miles - it's more a test of who has the best engine builder ane crew-chief. It was the first time Dodge had won there in 20-something years... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Far less attrition in this years race than in years past. The front runners pretty much stayed up front all day. Dixon's blocking penalty goes into the top 10 of Indy bonehead moves all time. There's so much on that track that can take you out, yet he actually managed to do it himself.
Great runs by Marco, Michael (with bad dash readout all race long), and indeed Danica. Some might argue with that last one, but running in the top 5-10 all day and finishing 8th is a good result for a sophmore driver, no matter who they are, IMHO.
Jaques Lazier gets the "short attention span theater" award for spearing Jeff Simmons' (?) rear wing that was laying smack dab in the middle of the track, and PJ Chesson gets the raw deal award by being collected by the cold tire challenged Jeff Bucknum.
All in all, pretty good stuff. Now to snooze through the rest of the IRL season as I normally do.
