UPDATE

If you have paid for a sender it has been shipped and you should have received it by now. If for some reason you have not received something please contact me.

I still have some units left. I would really like to get them off my desk at work. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> (Not to mention get to break even on this group buy.) Here is what I am going to do:

If you are on the Reserve list OR the Wait list you can contact me and I will sell you the units that you reserved on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis. Those who have posted in this thread wanting units but who have not been added to the waitlist are included (stevekat, edsteve, doster.) Just send me an email, I'll get you payment information and once all that is handled I'll get the units out to you.

On September 10, I'll open the buy to everyone regardless if you are on the list or not (assuming I have units left.) So basically, if you are on the list you have until September 10 to claim your sender(s).

doster, please let me know what you would like to know. If you would like a unit they are $30 for an assembly. Since you expressed interest prior to this posting, you do not need to wait until September 10 if you would like a unit.

One last note, please be patient if I do not get back to you immediately. This is the latter part of the busy time of the year for me at work and sometimes it may take me a few days to respond. I would like to thank those who most recently purchased senders for their patience as I was much slower than usual and everyone was very polite about it.

Thanks,

Brett
What is your odometer gear part?[post="25392"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Stevekat,

When the odometer gear broke on my car a year or two ago, I thought for some reason it would be fun to design my own gear and make the gear at work. Since I was making one I thought I might as well make a full batch in case anyone else needed one. Well, it turns out that other people definitely needed them. If your odometer has stopped working, there is a very good chance it is because of a broken odometer gear. (Awhile back, I would have said that an odometer failure is almost certainly because of a broken gear but there has been at least one odometer failure reported here that was linked to an electrical malfunction.) Anyways, I now try to keep a few handy at all times for those that need them. I am sending them out for $10 (enough to cover costs and a dollar or two for my time.)

Please PM me for payment details. Thanks.

Brett
I think I asked in a different thread and never really understood: What exactly does a hall sender do?

Thanks!

Mark
It's a hall effect sensor that detects TDC (top dead center), The DME uses this signal for fuel and timing control.
I have 9 hall sender assemblies left for whoever wants them. After these are gone they are gone. $30/each. Send me a PM or an email if interested.

Brett
To anybody that doesn't have a spare on the shelf, this is an amazing deal. The Porsche units are I believe like 5X as expensive. I purchased two, and already had to use one to fix an intermittent hall sensor issue.
What are the symptoms of a failing Hall Effect sensor? Does the car idle roughly, hesitate, or back fire? How do you diagnose a problem with this sensor as appose to a bad DME.

I have a spare DME because most 968r's think it's a good idea and the original DME was prone o failure. Is the Hall Effect sensor also prone to failure?

For the Hall sensor, symptoms include retarded timing, and a fault code that can be checked with your dash light. I can't imagine the retarded timing (DME uses map rather than sensor) will cause any rough idle, or backfire, but may cause some mild hesitation and loss of power. The reason the Hall Sensor might be prone to failure is simply because the exhaust manifold generates so much heat and makes the wire lead on the back the the hall sensor brittle. Again, to check if the Hall sensor is or will be faulty, check the condition of the wires, and check for fault codes in the DMEs memory. IIRC, 1-1-3-4 is a faulty Hall Sensor. 1-5 is all good.

Just FYI, The DME and DME relay are two different devices. The DME is the engine managment computer, while the DME relay is a relay that turns on the fuel pump while the engine is rotated.

Based on my experiences, anyone in the 90k + mileage region should consider a spare (at the price of $30).
Hi,

Hi Brett,

I need one as well since my connector is broken (though the sensor does seem to still work). It appears that the last two have been spoken for though? If not let me know or maybe you can provide a new connector instead?

Travis
