The August 2017 issue of Excellence Magazine has an article on the 968. Written by Karl Ludvigsen of all people.

Overall the review is pretty good, with hindsight of course. Much of it is already known to us enthusiasts. The one thing he elaborates on is the initial concept as the 944 S3, and that creating a new identity as the 968 didn't add much to sales. I personally believe that the car might be more valuable today had they kept it named the 944 S3.
The article includes interviews with Porsche people involved in the 968 development. And it also doesn't under-emphasize the less than stellar market response at the time.
This issue also has another article with the market update on the 924/944/968 as Excellence has had periodically. Interesting that the 968 in excellent condition, a cab, is valued at $20,000 which is more than even an excellent condition 944 Turbo S ($18K). That is completely appropriate since the 968 performance specs are equivalent to the 944 Turbo without all the turbo stuff and a much better design.
(of course I didn't double check the thread title: should be "Excellence Magazine".)
