Just baking some ceramic paint on engine parts. I color code stock vs race rebuilds.

Doesn't stink up house too much!

Now that sounds like something my track car desperately needs!
Is it as good as your chili ???

Jay

Your spouse is very understanding :-)
My spouse has given up on me. Many times :whine:

from what i have been told, and from what i can find, doing this in your house is an extremely bad idea.  the fumes are extremely toxic, cannot be detected via normal means, and affect the central nervous system, sometimes years later.  everything i can find says "do not use your oven for food afterward"

I would likely agree that there would nbe some off gassing of TVOC from the paint as it bakes.  I think that It might be far less likely that much would accumulate in the oven - once the VOCs in the paint are evaporated by the heat they probably wouldn't re-solidify as a residue. It would more likely escape via the heat relief vent that ovens have and be distributed into the house. That, of course, might also be an issue depending upon the types of chemicals being volatilised by the heat. To be sure, just use the high-temp self cleaning function on the oven and then allow it to air out afterward.

That was our finding when we were baking ceramic coatings on parts for the race car. We set up a used industrial oven in the garage for that purpose because our spouses were unwilling to poison their appliances so our headers could flow better.

Gee, I sure miss that woman  Rock

Eh, most women are " half-baked " anyway ( except for those who drive 968s , that is ..) so no need to worry about anything other than improving these cars , using whatever means and at whatever relationship risk that may bring ..
My new paint only needs to cure at 120 degrees and didn't seem to emit strong vapors. I have written to manufacturer to assess any damage to my oven. Next time I will "Sun" cure on a hot day.

Only 1 of my canaries died. So I'm good.

so now you are telling us that you have a gold mine?

Added - sorry, I think that was a coal mine.  You wouldn't want to acknowledge that (except, perhaps, to Mr Trump).

...for powder coating smaller parts, I bought a used toaster oven from Goodwill ($6) that's big enough for some things.  To only be used in the garage.  Unfortunately, I can't use it for my mini sandrail frame Sad.  Harbor Freight used to sell a small oven, but I can't find them anymore...

Ds you sexist pig. You should apologize to all of our female members.

Did you somehow miss the exception noted inside the parenthesis ?!       And who said half-baked is not a good thing..I like my all my pastry to be on the "doughy" side ..  ok, now I'm way O.T.,  apologies and back to baking car parts !
I'm sure they will all appreciate your sincere apology as you dig the whole deeper. Perhaps fully backed would have been more accurate!
