I started some winter projects and one just make me wonder why. Why do alot of po's seem to not care?

Project #1 is cleaning the rims and I don't think the po ever took the rims off. These pics are after about 6hrs of Simple Green and a brush.

They will probably get repainted when I need tires in a year or so.

Project #2 is repainting my center caps, they seem to be turning out not too bad.

and the finished product.

Mine were atrocious also! Now I clean inside every wash and wax the insides every month or so. Now they keep clean easily and look great!
Good job! The wheels and centercaps came out just fine. Just goes to show what a little patience and a lot of elbow grease can do. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
Very nice work!

Or... you can do what the Ferrari owners do, and just buy a new car when the old one has 10,000 miles on it or gets dirty...whichever comes first!!! ;>))

Of course, for us who love the looks and handling of our "old cars" (quote by my significant other!) I guess we are stuck with cleaning them! I like the citrus based degreasers for the inside of the wheels, and for the really rough spots, a spritz of Gumout Carb Cleaner on a scotchbright pad works wonders! Of course, it will sometimes remove paint, so go lightly and prepare to refinish as necessary, but on the inside of the wheels, that's not such a bad thing!

Now we are going to have to start a "Concours" section! Oh, bother...
very purty. . .

put a coat of Rejex on 'em and save yourself trouble down the road.
But if it wasn't for the PO's lack of care you wouldn't have picked up the car at such a good price!!! I'm all for cleaning someone else's mess for a few thousand dollar discount.
Thanks for all the ada-boy's.

Yeah it's alot of work (not done yet ) but it will be worth it when I'm done. I just wish the PO would have cleaned them once in awhile. All it really takes is an extra 15min and a wheel brush at wash time to keep them shiny.

As for the cleaners; I like organic based cleaners, they work good and not to harsh on the hands(or the enviroment). I tried using petrol but all that did was take the fresh dust off and carb cleaner just scared me (I like the paint were it is )

I will be sure to put something on them when I'm done (wax, rejex) and clean them often, (plus after all this work, no way they will ever look like this again )

I don't think a concours tread is such a bad idea, I checked all the forums for info about cleaning rims (after the petrol had little affect) and the ones that had a concours tread were easy to find what I needed for this and other detailing jobs.
