Ever since I had to repair the Tip feature on my 92Cab, I've been wondering if anyone has come up with a mod to adapt a steering wheel with tip switches from a later model Porsche or add a paddle shifter mechanism?
Tiptronic in the Cab is fun, but I figure that shifting while keeping both hands on the wheel would add to the enjoyment on the twisty roads.

Thanks - I finally stumbled onto that thread... found a few interesting after market paddle shifters but they are all targeting the hot rod / ricer markets!
BTW, pumping the gas pedal is likely faster than the paddle shift - you can drop two gears in one tap.
I wish the Tip chip could be reprogrammed to hold rpms longer before upshifting. Weltmeister chip moves the redline a few hundred rpms up, but the Tip controller upshifts even in the manual mode and negates this benefit.
Lower ratio gear set would also be nice.

apparently it can, but you have to do it yourself - it is my understanding that the tip "learns" how you drive - however, if it is an ongoing situation, i think this means that it would revert though, if you stopped driving it hard
i need to do more reading on this one to be sure
Somewhere I ran into a UK site that would reprogram the Tip Chip. Not cheap; and IMO not worth it; the system will change shift patterns with a modded engine chip (so iv'e read). I'll try and find it again and post the link later.
IIRC, you sent them your trans computer they un-solder the chip, socket the IC board, and reinstall the modded chip.
i know that somebody here who is running the racer x chip said that it changed the programming for the better too - i have not yet talked to anybody running the rs barn chip on a tip to see if it also did the same thing, but a quick call to pete would answer that one
I actually talked to Pete (and flash) about this when I first got my car, both said the same "no real proof (yet) but in theory it should change the shifting for the better, a more aggressive pattern" I plan on getting Pete's stage 1 chip this summer, I'll let you all know what I think (already did the air box mod).
sweet - yeah, it should do exactly that - can't wait to hear how it is
