Full Version: Can I Replace Locking System With Remote Control System?

I've been having a problem with my '93 Cab unlocking itself that has stumped my mechanic for about two years now. I happened to be talking with the previous owner yesterday and he suggested pulling out the Porsche locking system and replacing it with a new system that includes a remote, like on most modern cars. I seem to remember this being discussed around here, though I couldn't find it with the search function. Anyone here already done this? Suggestions, advice, and war stories all appreciated.

Bill
Bill, search " Bulldog " on this forum, as I recall ( very vaguely though ,..) I think that was one of the more common brands used by a few of our members who converted to a remote lock / unlock & alarm system , maybe something will turn up in one of the threads .
I used a Viper system. Pretty easy to install, but my 92 only had power locks, not the factory key-less remote system.

Bill, I put in a Bulldog system last spring, works fine for remote lock/unlock. Bulldog ie the product name, forgot the companynname. Matt has added tail light flashing and a"beep" as well. That's on my fall list to add as well. But, can't get the Bulldog second remote to sync with the control unit. Others are having the same issue and there is zero support from Bulldog, so if you have an issue, don't expect any help from them. Maybe Viper would be better?

This doesn't replace the Porsche "key central locking" but adds a separate unit that is wired into the Porsche unit for keyless remote lockong/unlocking.
