I apologize for posting this here, but it is one of the few (actually, first one I found) sections that would allow me to start a new thread. I have had a problem for several months now where there are numerous threads that won't allow me to post. I have brought it to the attention of the powers that be two or three times, but the problem continues. Today I wanted to post on the "Porsche Only Produced 100 Black Cab's [sic]?" thread, but the thread reads, in the upper right, "You cannot reply to this topic".

Again, I apologize for this not-exactly-on-topic post, but desparate times call for desperate measures!

Bill
Bill,

I had the exact experience with the Tesla thread! I had some pithy and furiously entertaining comments to offer, but for some reason I was denied the opportunity. I assumed it was because I am in Reno and Musk has his plant here and he doesn't want locals spilling the beans about his production and personnel practices.

Regardless, it may just be Russian hackers having a little fun with our little forum. Has anyone else noticed the complete dearth of members from the former USSR? Coincidence? I think not.

благодаря for the post,

Мэтью
I, too, had a Pulitzer Prize worthy addition to the Tesla thread. And I, too, was locked out from posting it. This glitch with our forum has undoubtedly denied mankind many insightful, educational, and life-changing ideas that could have saved the world!
The Tesla thread posting worked out ok for me , but there were others which did not allow replies - and it wasn't simply the classifieds or closed topics , these were active threads ... So whether it's Russian hackers ( funny post Matt ! ) or cosmic forces which are causing this phenomenon , I think Jay and /or Kim will probably figure it out soon enough , and find a fix ..
I do not have an answer. I am hoping that Jay, who has be an owner far longer than I, has a better insight into the workings.

Perhaps we need to tweet more and use far less logic?

I am totally aghast that you seemingly intelligent, educated and smart individuals don't get it. There is a new, deep seated censor who monitors everything. He is not Chinese but I suspect he has been trained by them. Tow the party line or keep your pithy thoughts to yourselves. What's good for the state is good for you.
To paraphrase Orwell:

All posters are equal, but some posters are more equal than others.
I have already seen a few posts inexplicably vanish which is a little troubling , but I recognize and respect the right of the owners / monitors to remove what they may feel is inconsistent with the forum's philosophy . I did not say I agree with that right, but simply that I recognize it and respect it accordingly . I my view , no post RELATED TO THE 968 , no matter how argumentative or confrontational , should be censored / removed UNLESS it resorts to personal insults, name calling , or if it deviates into completely off topic discussions.

That's why many of those other " social topics " threads and forum segments were closed, because politics and other similar touchy topics took over the conversation and often became highly contentious and inflammatory at a personal level . But when it comes to our cars, differing opinions ( aka contributions ) should never be silenced no matter how opposing and strong they may be .. We're not middle school kids here, and we're all fully capable of making up our own minds based on the information presented. IMO, the more information the better , even if it's borderline controversial . But that's just my $ 0.02.
I too can't reply to the "100 black cab's" thread. It's greyed out and there is no box to write a reply...
With respect to deleting posts, I think that I am in agreement that a post should not be deleted "UNLESS it resorts to personal insults, name calling , or if it deviates into completely off topic discussions." I have not deleted anything personally that didn't fall directly into this category. Sometimes the needs of the few - or the one - outweigh the needs of the many.

It's a fine line. Sadly, if we need to resort to a referendum to delete something, nothing will be done. Be assured, I won't delete anything just because I don't agree. History has proven that in 698 discussions I have been wrong far more frequently than right. But, if I feel that someone has been attacked unnecessarily, not just because of a different opinion, I will do what I feel I need to do.

I am not the only owner, but I think that I am safe in saying that Jay does not disagree with this.

The real question is why this is happening all of a sudden? I really don't recall this happening in the past with the frequency that all are seeing now. It also doesn't seem like there is comment that needs to be removed. Of course that's not my call to make.
It's very comforting to find out that I'm not being singled out by notby being allowed to further the understanding of the universe with my cutting insights.

Jay bumped up my forum status and that seemed to help but I too couldn't comment this past week on a few topics.

Not had a post deleted so that's never been an issue, and I don't recall seeing that, seen a few moved to other more appropriate threads, but not deleted.

Some software grimlins at work. It's all Bush's fault.
Sorts not Bush

This problem seems to have struct members mostly from West of the Mississippi, so I think this is a liberal conspiracy based in Californistan.

I have tried to solve this problem a couple of ways, which has worked for several members. I do not have an overall solution for everyone.

I will continue to try to resolve these issues on a person by person basis, but we are close to needing an upgrade to the software, and that is beyond my own capacity and ability, so I'm going to be reaching out for some technical assistance.

Thanks for bearing with us.

Jay

Jeeezus, are we starting down the path of the political left coast vs. right coast ( well, anything but "right", lol ) jabs again ? I thought we grew out of that stage. Sure, I realize this is not quite a Biggie vs.Tupac magnitude conflict ( hell, look how that ended up !! ) , and even though much of it is in jest , given the current environment it's a topic which can quickly devolve into ....removable posts ! IMHO.
The truth is, this problem exists exclusively on the West coast, I really have no idea why, but it is consistent. Sorry if my comment about California didn't give the correct weight to this answer.

I am changing people's rights administratively, and finding for the most part that it is working (mostly).

We'll continue to work through the problems, and thank you for your continued contributions.

Jay
Clearly those on the left coast have offended people and are now suffering the consequences of their actions. Right or left doesn't matter. Of course right doesn't work well on the left coast regarding political beliefs or actions. DS you need to get your peeps in line.

But, but, but I'm in AZ, not to be confused with the west coast. So the problem exists to the east of the west coast. :-)
