latest update. I went out to 928leathershop today for final fitment of test carpet. Except for a few minor details and getting the cut just right, it looks great. Domestic pile is what is being used for test carpet and it looks really good. German velour in black will be used on my actual carpet. It has a much denser more refined appearing weave.
Anyway, things have progressed and Bob is doing a great job. Hopefully, in two-three weeks, I will have the full set installed and will post pics.
asm for floor mats..any ideas? anyone have faovrites? Trunk mat source?
just bought a set of four cockpit and one trunkmat from LLoyd. went with black with white piping around edge...add a little zing to the interior and matches the outside color. Order was 200$ WITH shipping for five pieces!! Hope they fit well, but I have heard thet Lloyd mats usually fit well. Only thing was that there was no choive for plush or regular cut. I assume that they will be cheaper regular cut, but pics look like it might be thicker pile....will see.
I ordered from US Speed. I checked aroudn for pricing and all were within 10$ of each other and all net retailers use LLoyd's standard drill down carpet finder system. HOWEVER, some retailer's websites had trouble adding the rear deck mat to the cost. US Speed site worked like a charm!

ordered set of Lloyd mats cause I couldn't wait for carpet guy. They are fantastic. Cut perfectly(even little cutout for spare) soft rubber non skid bottom (not golf spikes) clips for front mounting, and edged (in plastic, not sewn) I bought black with white edge to add a little spice to the interior. Carpet is medium cut pile and fairly dense. Not cheesy at all. Overall, very satisfied!!! 200$ to my door.
check out the leather armrest with crest. Also, won a glove box door off ebay. Somehow, both metal arms were broken off mine(literally broken with jagged edge) and there was a tear in the vinyl. All better now.

Bob and his crew have come through with a really nice work of art. All necessary seems are finished with sewn edges. The German Velour is very dense and well made. Check out the pics. Will do an install next week. Very nice foot rests, too. The padding in the front wells is very firm and mildew resistant...a polyspun fiber blend.
The carpet looks good. Looking forward to see what it looks like after install.

928leathershop gave me some rates for those of you who are intersted: 1200$ for German Velour or Silvernit ( Go with Gernman Velour..WELL worth it in my opinion) or ~900 for domestic (Generally good carpet, but see through material when you hold it up to the light..spend the cash)
We are still working on the trunk carpet supports. Probably dense nylon type plastic with foam. It will not fit into the grooves (right away) like the original foam..but foam will settle in over time.
Just be sure you undertand that ther will be some INSTALL time with this carpet set. It is VERY close to original, but will not fit EXACTLY like your old carpet(you have to do the cut-outs). you will have to massage it in places. Also, padding is not included except for front foot wells and trunk mat.

Looks great Xrad. Every time I see another pic of your machine I am reminded of how much time you have put into this. I am also very interested in how the carpet fits once installed. I am 50-50 on getting new. Mine is pretty worn, but cleaned up decent. So depending on price and fit I might jump.
Has Bob 928 given you any indication that he is interested in doing more of this?
Thanks Guys! Yep. Bob is interested. but the price is not cheap. Also, don;t expect them overnight. Each one is hand made and takes time as it gets stuck between his many other jobs.(there is a pile of half covered leather dashes in his shop and two 928's in line outside) And they are not stock cut so there is some minor fitting that has to be done. And you have to supply the carpet padding in some areas.
Remember, my car is the coupe. we still don;t have a pattern for the rear wheel wells and trunk for a cab.
I still think they are really nice and feel rich and thick when you run your hand over them.
OK . received all the carpet today and will put it in soon. A little trimming here and there but overall a nice job. If anyone is interested, Bob at 928leathershop gave me the final prices for carpets. Email him with any questions.

No problem.
Spent a few hours putting in the new carpet. German velour takes bends well and has a pliable backing.
I used 3m carpet adhesive spray. WORKS GREAT!. just spray a few inches from the edge and spray the body and wait 3 minutes. You better know where it's going because it sticks really well! I only tacked about 3inches from the edges ONLY on upright pieces, and not over the hump or surfaces parallel to the ground, or front firewall. One can was just enough. I did not get to the trunk yet. Carpet needed only minor trimming. And the holes needed to be cut out. measure three times, cut only once!
Only one gap near the hand brake, which is easily covered from underneath with a little left over piece. Don;t forget to mark where the seat belt bolts go before sticking down the carpet. I did not use any padding because of the sound barrier I placed earlier and because Bob already put padding for the front foot wells. Most of the stock padding remained over the rear wheel wells.
you might notice a few wrinkles, but this is the first time I have done carpet. Also, there is probably a better way of doing the rear seat backs, but I only had the stock metal clips to work with. I figure I will let it just settle in now.
