I'm finally shopping for a replacement stereo. My old Alpine has served me well but, although it stills plays well, the glove box-mounted CD changer is doing a header into the great stereo land in the sky.



I want a stereo that is iPod and Sat radio ready. I'd prefer to have both of them play and be controlled directly from the stereo deck but I can be flexible. I'll gladly sacrafice the CD changer for a single CD player.



So, I have two questions:



What stereos can any of you recommend? I'm looking at a couple of the JVC models that have direct iPod control.



I'm a Sirus subscriber and have an available Sporster 5 that is not currently connected in the 968. Also, I do not have a Sat antenna currently installed. Rather than install the little antenna that comes with the radio, I'd like to replace my regular P68 antenna with one of the newer models that are on the current-model cars. It wouldn't even have to be a Porsche antenna.



Next question -- Well set of related questions, really. Has anybody done this on their 968 or another car? Does anyone know if any of the current crop of Sat antennas are multi-functional, meaning they serve Sat radio and GPS and conventional AM/FM radio?



Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure on the antenna - I have a stubby MDX antenna, but it is only AM/FM - so I don't know how the newer ones would hook up/work.



As to head units - I have an Alpine 9887 and like it alot (do a search on the 9887 and you will find a couple of reviews) - I don't use sat radio, but have the Ipod connect and HD radio module...the Ipod is direct access thought the Head unit (search by song, playlist etc..)

I have the 9887 with built in SAT,HD and ipod interface. It is a great upgrade to the mid level kenwwod I had. The SAT and HD "modules" cost extra.

The cable that connects the ipod is only $20. It controls your ipod like an ipod. You get all of your music info on the Alpine readout.



I mounted the little antenna supplied with the SAT receiver next to my FM antenna. You may be able to just mount it in the hatch area.



The lights of the radio match fairly well.



There are also allot of nice radios out there that even have blue tooth built in if you like to use the phone.

There is enough room next to the engone ECU for the SAT module.

Most JVCs have a nice interface and loads of eye candy while your music is playing. My old JVC also had a SD slot which was great for DLing MP3s on the fly (I do miss pulling my Sd card from my treo and having a host of playlists). But I found Alpine to be a stronger unit. Clarity even at low levels and tunning ability were strong selling points. Swing by your local tweeter and give them all a listen. See if you reach the same conclusion.
