Howdy unknown4u,
I'm from the U.S. but stationed in Germany. I've been a PCD member for several years and I try to take advantage of as many trips as possible with the club.
I do have a rather.... imaginitive... "travel agent" that likes to keep sending me to wonderful third and fourth world countries. If you watch the world news, you know what I mean . This kind of puts a kabash on some of my personal plans but hey, someone's got to do it right?
Sorry for lack of clarity. I was referring to the PP2008 in Sardinia, Italy from 7 May to 11 May 2008.
Will you be there?

Hey, I understand. I had the same travel agent for a while. Every time I told him I wanted a trip to the beach, I'd get sent to the "steel beach". "Steel Beach has no sand and when I was there no women and not much fun now that I think about it. No Porsches either unless you count the ones in the slot car set my parents sent me for Christmas.

Hi Chris,
Former Service Member eh? What branch were you?
I like your laundry list of previously owned and currently owned cars. Wow, you really had the bug bad!!!
A 409? Awesome!!!
I'm also a Mustanger deep down inside. I've owned dozens of them over the years, mostly from the 60's and a couple from the 70's, but my fave is definitely the '66 Shelby I'm waiting to restore if/when I ever return to the 'States.
It's been sitting in storage for over 25 years. I'm getting the itch really bad!

Would love to be driving the 968 in Sardenia or anywhere in Italy. I was there in October of last year and had to drive a Fiat Punto. What a dog! Old women on bicycles were passing me. Oh well, the price was right.
I did have a trip to Germany on business and rented a 944. It was sooooo great driving the Autobahn and visiting the factory in Zuffenhausen.

Naval Aviator, the "Steel Beach" is an aircraft carrier.
I bought the 409 when I was in high school. I was big into drag racing and that was the machine to have. In fact I got the only speeding ticket I ever received driving that car. Picked my brother up on his last day of high school and got suckered into drag racing a friend who was driving his Dad's 66 Chevy Impala 396 SS. I won and we both got tickets for"exhibition of speed". The fine cost me a small fortune. the best of the muscle cars was the Camero. It was one of the homologation specials that were built to qualify the cars as an FIA GT for competion in Europe. The rules required that you had to make a limited number of the cars that you proposed to race, available to the general public to purchase. The car was delivered in street trim with all the "go fast goodies" in the trunk. This enabled you to build it up to an outright race car if you chose to. I kept this one the longest. A collector made me an offer I just couldn't turn down at the time.
The speedster with the transplanted 4 cam was a very sweet little car, but like all early Porsches it had some handling issues.
I hope you're successful at getting the Shelby on the road. A friend of mine had one for a while and it was a lot of fun to drive. I'm a huge fan of vintage road racing and it is not uncommon to see a half dozen or so of these cars running against Corvettes ans Cobras. Lots of fun to watch and it takes me back to when I was kid watching them race in the mid 60's at Laguna Seca and Riverside Raceway.

Cooooool. My Dad was an Airdale also. I grew up all over the place, about three years at a time. I think his profession is how I got the airplane bug too. I'm in Army Aviation and I love it but I've been doing it for a LONG time and I'm ready for a normal life, whatever THAT is!!!
Living in Germany is the freaking bomb! What an awesome experience. This is also a distinct advantage for those of us who drive cool cars and like to go really fast... legally!!! I always like to roll out the welcome mat for our Porsche friends who want to stop by for a visit, so if any of you out there are planning a trip to Europe, please contact me. And bring your International Drivers License along, perhaps we can arrange an "autobahn experience".
I can't wait for the PP2008 in Sardinia. I'll post some pics when we return.
BTW, I love the story about your only ticket!!!

Hi Ritchie,
I'm at 91522 Katterbach-Ansbach. If you go to http://maps.google.de/ and punch in 91522 Katterbach-Ansbach, you'll see Katterbach just about 3 km north of Ansbach on the B-14. The only thing in the tiny village of Katterbach is about a dozen farm houses and our Airbase. Amazing what you can see from outer space! Kind of creepy too!!!
It would be great to meet you. If you're going to Munich, you're driving right past us, probably on A-6.
We will leave home on Tuesday 7 May and not return until 13 May. We have friends who own a lake home at Gardasee and we'll take an extra vacation day with them on the way back after the Parade. If you're still going to be in the area, please stop by for refreshments!
My frau and I will be doing some traveling this summer and hopefully we'll be up in your neck of the woods at some point. Perhaps we can arrange a meeting sometime.
mit Freundlischen Gruessen,
Dan

I've been through Ansbach a couple times... to fuel up at the top of the hill when coming and goin to Grafenwoehr from Baumholder. A complete drag to drive the autobahn in a friggin' Humvee! We were supposed to stick to about 60kph! Luckily I drove the Ops Major, so we cruised at 100kph and then stopped every once in a while to let the caravan catchup. Had more fun in my Bimmers than the Humvee...
