In the maintenance book at every 2,000 miles I should have the Balnnce belts adjusted? Boy that puts a cramp in any long trip I may want to take. Any update on this?
Oh yeah...........How do you folks feel about synthetic oils for the engine and trans (Tiptronic)?

2000 miles probably refers to after the initial replacement of the balance belt. I'd suggest 1500 at the most to recheck that belt. After the initial readjust you should be good for at least 15k before you need to recheck it. You will probably be replacing it sooner due to age.
For engine oil, I run Synthetic and most others probably do. I personally run Redline 10/40, use to run Mobil1 15/50. For the tip trans I couldn't answer that one.

Thanks but please tell me................After the first check, I believe you said to check it at 1500 not 2,000, is the relpacement 6 yrs. or 60,000 miles?

Yes first check at about 1500 miles then next check at say 15k. I wouldn't go 6 years 60k on the timing belt. I think most people will say 45k is a better number and maybe 4 years. It's cheap insurance. If the belt snaps it results in your valves meeting your pistons and your wallet instantly draining.
Having suffered a catastrophic belt failure, I can tell you my own plan for as long as I own the car is to replace belts at 5 Years/15,000 Miles. Check tensioning at 2,000 miles after belt replacement. I'm pretty sure RS Barn does an inspection of my belts as part of annual maintenance as well (actually, would be more surprised if they didn't).

Not to beat a dead horse but................Is the changing of the balance belt as costly and time consuming as the timing belt? Also is there a great difference in changing the 944 belts and the 986?

change both belts at the same time - don't cheap out on this part
no idea what is involved in 986 belts - never worked on a boxster (yes, this was a cheap shot)

http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=3660. Make sure to read the comments that actually dissuade changing the ATF, I am not sure I quite understand it.
Seems Dexron III is the right one. I just put Dexron III in my tip, I bought it at Autozone and is sold under the name brand "DEXMERC". If you read the back panel, it is the same as Dexron III.
