Looking to get a RS Barn Stage 1 or Promax 7100 (USA) chip. 

 

Let me know if you have one you'd be willing to part with.

I think I still have the Autothority chip I took out when I put in an RSB Stage 1 chip.  I didn't know the car had an aftermarket chip in it until after I bought the RSB and went to install it.  You can have the Autothority chip if you want it. 

FYI I had an Autothority chip in my car when I got it (but didn't know it). Running on 91 octane fuel it always had ignition knock and I didn't know why. I replaced knock sensors, wires, etc, with no luck.  I discovered the chip by accident.  Jay, who was using an RS Barn chip, gave me his old original one to try.  Problem was solved immediately. Later I got an RS Barn stage 2 chip, again with no problems.  So just beware of the Autothority chip as It may have been tuned for 93 octane beyond where the timing can correct for it.. 

I had an autothority chip with the same problem. They seem to work best in the later cars, it pinged like mad in my 92, but ran fine in a 94. I think the RS Barn chip is better.
If it's not an RS Barn chip, keep it original...why mess with any of the others?

I believe ( but don't recall very well ) the Speed Six " racer X " chip tests produced slightly better results than the RS Barn chip , although by negligible margins at various RPM ranges . It performed very well in my car ( before I SC'd it ..) so I think either / or are a perfectly fine choice . IMO
Remember, Pete needs to know the number on your stock chip, as all of his Stage 1 chips are not the same.
Thanks for the replies. Ill pass on the autothority offer but thanks. Ive got my engine in good tune and Im ready to see what a mild chip does for throttle response. Ive sent a couple emails to RS Barn in the past few weeks without response. Will try to get them on the phone after the holiday.
The question is what did you do with the racer x chip?

I always run premium and had no problem with the autothority chip, but like the RSB chip better.
Hopefully this isnt derailing the thread too much, but what is consensus (dangerous to ask maybe) about drilling holes in the front of the air box in addition to running a modified chip. Pros and cons?
What do you mean by modified?
Tim, run a search on this forum for air box mod and it should provide you with all of the info you'll need re what , how, results in combination with a non-stock chip, precise sizes of the holes and the added air flow rings to the holes contour edges ( which are essential to optimize performance ) , etc.
Gotta do the airbox mod! Most bang for the buck improvement you can do to these cars. Second, IMHO, is the short shift mod.

Agree with Bill, the air box mod is a NO brainer. But, find the instructions on how to do it correctly. The RSBARN chip is added power, also the RSB cat back exhaust helps the whole thing go better.


Then, of course, you'll want to improve the suspension and braking to take advantage of all this new hottness.


Now, you'll want a better sound system so you'll be able to hear the tunes while you are rippin' up the pavement. And of course more dynamat.

With apologies for those who are not SNL fans and might not get the above reference . And with due tribute to the great Christopher Walken .


But yes, indeed a slippery slope : performance chip, air box mod , catback exhaust system, short shift kit, all arguably a must and not very expensive in the overall scheme of things . Enhanced suspension and upgraded stereo / cabin sound system are a bonus , but not compulsory ;-) :-) whereas the other listed mods are ! ;-)
Order of mods:

 

1) Turn faster

2) Stop faster

3) Go faster
