Approval from a 356 owner
#1

Was at Costco this afternoon, parked the car as far away as I could in a distant corner of the lot ( I don't have the side protective strips on this 968 ..yet ) and as I was walking away from the car, behind me I heard : " Nice 968 ! ". Turned around and a gentleman in his late 60s - early 70s ( guessing..) was just getting out of his 356 !! Mint condition. So I waited for him so we could chat a bit before going into the store - he said that he bought his 356 brand new, way back when, and still drives it almost every day. I was shocked that as a DD it was still in that shape ! He mentioned that he also makes a habit of finding as remote of a spot as possible to park, but said " and still, some asshole with a pick up truck managed to ding my door a couple of years ago " . He also mentioned that the 968 would be his choice over most 911s , except the 993 and the GT3. I'll take that compliment any day from someone who is a true original " purist " , and not the dime a dozen 911 pretenders calling themselves purists.

Nice! I have gotten a couple of nods from folks while driving. It is fun when people appreciate your car.

Yesterday, I parked in a "lone space" at a grocery store in East Sacramento. When I returned to the 968 it was guarded on the left side by a really nice Boxster (if such exists) and on the right side by a 996.

They probably parked next to the 968 thinking it would improve their cars' image being in the company of such a classic. The fools.. not realizing that would actually make their cars appear even more bland :-) Women seek out less attractive friends to hang around so they look even better by comparison, the Boxster and the 996 achieved just the opposite by parking next to the 968, LOL

Glad to see we've come to the same observation. I call the flock of ugly ones "electrons", because they all seem to be orbiting the nucleus, perhaps hoping to get stuck to someone trying to get through.

I would have offered a pink slip swap and then slowly driven to a Gooding Auction <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> Nice to see one car owners like that, I have an acquaintance like that but he only has a baby blue 914.
