Anybody deal with Higher Connections lately?
#21

You think Porsche would have more respect for a big customer like the USA. But no, just throw the battery in the front and build the cars with parts that are second rate! You guys all need a UK spec car. Its the best. (I'll put my fishing rod away now).

I've just sent a message to Robby inquiring about the harness. It sounds like a good "preventative measure", given the risk. It sure would be embarrassing to have my car drive itself across the parking lot at work, not to mention the damage to someone else's car (or cars).

Good to hear, as the power cables on these cars are a definite weak point.

I was fortunate to get the whole Ice Shark kit back when I first brought my 968. It was the very first upgrade that I did to the car. It was truly scary to see the shape of the original wires. They literally crumbled in my hands. I would highly suggest that all 968 owners inspect these cables given the age of the cars. I just checked my cables yesterday and I honestly believe they will probably outlast the car at this point. LOL.

I have a question that may be difficult to answer definitively, but for those who have installed either Ice Shark or Higher Connection cables, have you noticed more robust cranking on cold days? Just wondering if the lower resistance of the lower gauge cables (not to mention the better quality connectors, all compared to the deteriorating stock cables & connectors) provide a little more current flow to the starter thanks to the reduced resistance. I'm wondering because I'd like to install a smaller "racing" battery, and am hoping a set of Higher Connection cables might partially offset the loss in cranking amps. Thanks.

I climbed up the kitchen steps to reach a cupboard the other day and felt a bit of stiffness coming on...oh sorry I miss-read the thread title. Forget it.

Cloud,

Not exactly sure of the technical terms, but the harness delivers "cleaner" power (lights don't lower and raise when the blinker is turned on, etc.).

Sounds like they cured a grounding problem for you, which is definitely a good thing. But I'm wondering if I can expect more net current flow to the starter, givng me a little more margin with a smaller battery.

as an example of what happens when you improve the quality of the wiring, when i moved my battery to the rear, even though it was 14 ft farther away, because i used a 4200 strand cable and gold connectors, yada yada, i picked up a full half volt over the OEM wire and connectors.

better cabling and connectors means less loss. less loss means more available power.

Robby is still around. he returned my email, and gave me a quote on the cable replacement kit. I'd do it, but the wiring looks so daunting. I might have to pay the mechanic to do the work.

The wiring actually isn't bad - you just have to be patient and take it slowly. But it just boils down to laying the new cable alongside the old, taking the old out, and replacing with the new. Not a bad job at all. About comparable to a brake pad replacement, imho.

It really isn't hard, just time consuming. Make sure you have your while you're in there list ready for when you do it... Clean grounds, clean ISV, air oil separator, vacuum lines or at least the connectors, intake manifold gasket, etc...

Yeah this is an old thread but seemes like a on-topic place to ask about Higher Connections cables again. Been trying to contact Robby since i joined the forum almost 3 years ago. Never a reply.

Anyone bought his kit in, say, the past year?

Strange that he still has a sponsorship on this site....

MLB, Porsche is making battery harness' for our cars again. I don't know about the quality yet... but I ordered a set from Sunset for @ $160 PMU's. Will report on quality once I recieve them. Seems like an alternative if we can't get higher connections. Hope that helps.

I picked up an alternator to starter cable from Summit for around 35 a couple of months ago. It was long enough to route away from the engine heat and up and around the master cyl and firewall. I added some silver heat shield for safety around the exhaust and bellhousing areas. Much heavier than stock, voltage came up a bunch.

My voltage reading holds steady @ 13.5. What did yours go up to?

Ernie, i thought The newly added Porsche classic harness was for tips only, and the wires aren't quite long enough for a manual trans...maybe thats wrong

It increased from around 12.8 to 13.5. Closer to 14 after I cleaned all the grounds and added a ground jumper from the ground in the battery box to the bolt that holds the hot water line that runs from the valve to the heater core.
