Fikse Mach V's
#1

Dave/Anyone else

If you are running Fikse Mach V's - do you have any pix of them on your car? What sizes are you running? How do you like them?

I like the ten spoke look and have been thinking about running the same size rim on all four corners. I liked the carrea ten spoke, but from the feed back I've received - it sounds like the 9" are a little to wide for the front or at least would be very tight (this is for a daily driver). So now I'm thinking the Fikse in 8 1/2" x 17" - then I would go with 245's and that raises the question as to aspec 40 or 45? A little taller or shorter? though not much of a compromise either way? Also if I were to go this way - what offset would be recommended in or to be able to rotate front to back? And in general what do you think ?

Thanks

Sam

ent]I have the black anodized (Darth Vader look) 8.5 & 10 by 17's on mine. I bought them from a guy running a 996tt. Fikse had spec'd them for 968 fitment as well. Sizes and weights according to Fikse:

Quote:Thank you for using Fikse wheels.

The serial number data base reflects you have the Mach V wheels in the following sizes:

8.5 X 17, +50mm offset, 6.58" backspacing, weight = 18.25lbs per wheel

10.0 X 17, +56mm offset, 7.58" backspacing, weight = 19.0lbs per wheel

For the black anodized finish use only soap and water or Simple Green and water to clean the wheels. No waxing or polishing needed.

Recommended tires for a 8.5 X 17 = 225/45-17 or 235/45-17 and 10.0 X 17 rear = 275/40-17

I hope none of that is a typo, you never know. All I know is they fit pretty well.

The spacing between the spokes is nice and allows me to bleed brakes without pulling the wheels off (if you bleed brakes 10 times per year like me).

I have very few pics of the car stationairy, but have attached what I have handy.

I run RA-1's right now, 235/45 and 275/40. These are a wee bit tall, but they fit fine. I suspect a 245 would fit in the front without issue and know that I have more room in the rear for wider rubber.

Hope this helps.

that depends on how much of a compromise on appearance you want to make - unfortunately the front and rear hubs set the wheels in different places, and that affects the look, especially when you start making the wheels wider - a guess would be somewhere around 55mm on an 8.5" rim, but i'd have to look closely at the front springs to see if the 17" rim in that width cleared

Do note this. I have the little center hub caps from Fikse in stock size AND the extended (deeper) size. I cannot get either to fit the front wheels quite right. In fact, have 4 std and 2 deep for sale in anodized black if anyone needs them

Dave/Flash

Thanks

Dave - My car is black so I probably wouldn't get the anodized black or at least they would need a polished rim - I do like the sound of only 18.25# per wheel. Do you think my stock wheel centers would work with the Fikse.

Flash - when they were trying to talk you into the same size rim all round, what width were you looking at? I had moved down to the 8 1/2 because the 9" would be to wide? I would be willing to use a small spacer (say 4-6mm on either the front or rear) to help with the appearance and/or clearance problems.

No, you need Fikse center caps on these wheels. I think they could be made to fit, but I just don't want to machine the bloody things.

Also, I pull them all off for the track anyway, so kind of a mute point for me.

I have seen black centers with polished rims on a white car. NICE!

I agree with you, for the black car, the silver finish will look nice.

they were going for 9 all around, but in an 18 - the extra diameter bought me clearance up front - i have 9s up there now)

i don't trust spacers, and probably never will, no matter how many people say it works for them - i've just seen too many failures and complications

side note - i almost went with FM-5s, but i didn't like the rep fikse had for breaking rims on rough roads - i opted for something a bit stronger, albeit a bit heavier - be careful if you plan to be on rough roads or ones with a lot of potholes - repairs are pricey

Sam - As I was mounting my snow tires for the winter (yes, you can drive race cars all year if you're crazy like me), I was reminded of one important downside of the Fikse's that I have on my car...

The rim is always in jeopardy. I'm not sure if this is applicable to all Fikse's or unique to my set, but the rim extends just beyond the tire. Thus, if you bump up against anything (and I do mean ANYTHING), even lightly, you will scratch the heck out of them.

It's an important tidbit, I apologize for not recalling it sooner. I've just gotten used to living with the peril.
