Another Cup Holder Idea
#1

Hello Folks,

Been reading on occasion, and can’t contribute a whole lot like the others here. But I’ve been dying for a cup holder solution, and picked this one. These are the same as in my Syncro. They are available from:

http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php...=cup&start= (Grey, black)

http://www.van-cafe.com/vanagon_parts.jsp?...mp;p=1724341920 (Dark blue).

http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=CH100B (black shown, they have other colors).

Below are a couple of pics. I like the slim profile when closed compared to that other thicker opening one. I got lucky since they are available in grey to match my interior. The 2 arms have “click” settings to hold various sizes when moved apart or closer together. I picked the location simply by feel, allowing much room for the seat to slide forward. If they were mounted too far to the rear, then the passenger seat would bind against it. I wanted just one for the driver, passenger has 2 free hands, but clearly the space would fit a 2nd one. The tunnel curves outward towards the top, so inserting a cup requires a bit of tipping to get the cup in. But once it is in, the cup is level. Simply drilled and used 3 sheet metal screws. I had to drill quite a bit through lots of carpet and insulation. I haven’t tried a ‘big gulp’ cup, not sure this cup holder would give me confidence that the extra large cup would actually stay. The cup shown in the picture is a “tall”. Might be my last one soon, Starbucks is raising prices on July 31, they will then increase revenues over $1B annually. Wonder if speculation on 968s might earn me that much in 10 years. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

FYI (non-968): Love my Syncro http://picasaweb.google.com/syncronicity1/Syncro, more at www.syncro.org. They make a nice pair, the Syncro does what the 968 can’t: haul kids, my pickup truck, my camper, offroading, my rain vehicle, airport car, etc. Of course it can’t do anything the 968 can. It is quite lucky, both are silver ext. and grey interior.

Hello Roland,

Thanks for sharing the info with the group. I may order the dark blue one to match my interior.

That's a great cup holder and mounted exactly where mine it. Some other German cars used this type holder too. Looks and fits nice.
