ANNUAL NORCAL/SOCAL PASO ROBLES RUN - MAY 10
#1

ok kids - here it is - the long anticipated announcement of our annual norcal / so cal rendezvous paso robles run and wine tasting

once again i will lay out the socal course, stopping along the way to pick up others, and head up the coast to paso robles - i'll post that as soon as i have a list of people, and where we need to stop

we will be leaving from here VERY early, and ultimately arriving in paso robles for lunch at the crooked kilt about noon - then it is off to the winery - depending on how many people, we may well do more than one

as always, we will be treated to wines that are truly amazing, and get a taste of things the public never gets

from there, some of us will stay up there overnight, some will travel home - i'll work out those arrangements as soon as i have a feel for how many need rooms

there is no excuse acceptable for missing this one - you have plenty of notice - even my 85 year old father in law will be taking his car, so you can too - get the babysitter - finish the car - do whatever it takes, but do not miss this - with as many cars as have been making it to events lately, this is sure to be a large gathering - we could easily have 20 cars there

Uh... Bob, far be it for me to speak for someone else or read minds <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> but I'm not so sure rxter did not mean "dates ?" as in a proposed DAY to do this... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> because I was also wondering if you're going to suggest a date ( no, not the aforementioned date, nor the kind that grows on trees .. though I suppose both are edible <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) but a day in a month for the Paso run <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The date looks good for me as well. I'll probably stay over and come back up to The Bay on Sunday. There are a couple of wineries that I want to visit that may not be on Flash's list, but are of interest to me for educational reasons. I'm a half time enology and viticulture student.

Hahaha, you guys have to wake up early! LOL! This event is the sole reason I moved from 100miles east of LA to my current location 30 miles from Paso Robles. Suckers.

No it's not, and you're not fooling anybody ; Cal Poly has some of the best looking women on this planet so we all know why anyone moves to, or near by SLO <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The one I am most interested in is Tablas Creek. They are, as I understand it a biodynamically farmed mostly organic winery that specializes in Rhone varietals and Rhone style blends. They are located in an area that was specifically sought out for its soil characteristics which I understand are very similar to the Rhone Valley in France. Tablas' vineyards are all planted from vines brought over from the Chateau du Beaucastel, a Premier Grand Cru Chateauneuf du Pap producer in France. I understand that they have been experimenting with the old style vertical trellis system that has long been out of favor here in the US, where trellis systems that result in heavy crop loads have been the most popular.

And most importantly, I really like their wine!!!

I have to go through my class notes to find the name of the other, but it was also a winery that was focused on Rhone varietals.

Chris / Flash the scientific aspects you're talking about sound interesting so if you end up doing that. . . I might just tag along.
