When opening or closing the top, it's always an "involved affair" to fasten or remove the boot cover. Especially those two @!#$ snaps inside the trunk. Opening and closing the trunk is a pain and with age and shrinkage, those two snaps are a bear to get fastened.
For a good part of the summer, I'll open the top and secure the boot cover for the drive to work, then when I get there I'll just undo those two snaps in the trunk and the side Tenax fasteners, fold the boot cover forward a bit, and put the top up to protect the interior. Then in the evening I'll reverse the procedure to put the top back down or I'll just leave the top up and the boot cover back there on the storage shelf and drive home.
I'm wondering if anyone has fashioned an alternative fastener that doesn't require opening the trunk, but that still protects the finish on the car and doesn't stick up awkwardly when not in use?
Some thoughts:
1. There are "snap extenders" which are basically a snap fastened to a 1/2" strip of leather or nylon, with the "opposite sex" snap on the other end. This would fasten inside the trunk and stick up just above the gap. It would probably look "unfinished" when not in use, but would handily solve the shrinkage problem.
2. A fastener similar to one I've seen somewhere else. Oh, maybe on a set of garters and stockings. That would fasten to the boot cover and then slip down inside the trunk lid and loop around the snap there (or onto/into something that replaced the snap in there). This way the boot cover could be fastened without opening and closing the trunk, and again it would alleviate the shrinkage problem.
Or, maybe I'm the only one with a shrinkage problem.
